THN TF2 server full !?

Tried to join our TF2 server tonight, was full of course and it wouldn't let me join.

There was no other THN players on it.

Any chance of sorting this with res slots ?

mmmm seems a shame to have such a popular server when we can't get on to it.

An irony, perhaps? We did have a discussion recently about the possibility of starting a second server. Maybe this would be the solution to our problem?

Res slots I think would be the best choice, especially if they were tied to [THN] tags as that could promote our community and get people coming here.

But if we're constantly kicking people off in any numbers then a second server wouldn't go amiss.

Could you not increase Slot numbers ? ( or is it already at highest possible ? ;p )

Lame! I want some 32v32 2Fort! Can you imagine the FUN (and the sentries?)

I feel that the smaller maps would start to break if we added more people.

You see this a lot on Counter Strike maps that were designed for 8v8... on 32v32 they really suck.

Had the same problem last night though buffalo hunter was there when i eventualy fought my way onto the server but he was the only other. Its not so bad and it is a load of fun to have a game with full teams either side but as as has been said it sucks when you cant access your own clans server when its packed full of randoms.

Yes, success brings it's problems too!

Thanks has to go to Killcrazy for setting up the server and making it so popular in such a small period of time. Perhaps some thought needs to be given to the policing and administration of the server now to ensure continued popularity, fair gameplay and of course THN members being able to get on the server which some are paying for.

Unless someone makes it to this before me, I propose the following plan:

  1. Investigate and implement, if available, a suitable server mod that allows for res slots.
  2. Discuss (internally) who gets res slots. Current donators, yes. Past donators, probably. All THNers, possibly. Depends on technology, partly.
  3. If needed, or all other plans are insufficient or impractical, fire up a second TF2 instance.

Sound like a plan?

I'd vote for a second server, stuffed full of resslots! :)

Heres a question, can you have like Tier'd resslots, for example, tier 1 kicks randoms and tier 2 kicks randomly between tier 1 and random, or tier 2 could just kick ppl with the worsed 10 minute average score, afterall dont want to kick ppl who just joined? :)

Will the res-slot be that the server can have 24 people but when someone with [THN] as a prefix attempts to join it will kick someone?

Anyone can just shift-tab and add the tag.

Can the server have more slots than steam/valve originally intended, like spectator slots or thn only slots over the normal ammount?

I think a 2nd TF2 server may dilute the popularity/impact/appreciation of the 1st one. Remember the old days of the haven ns server, when it was so popular you had to queue to join, I feel it just made you feel all the more happy when you did get on.

Earlier on the week we had around 16 or so players at an organised TF2 event, last night we managed about 5 to a similar organised event. So logic would assume that at any random time THN people aren't going to anywhere near fill the server.

In the old days of the ns server, before I got my res slot, when I got kicked it just made me more determined to get back on it, a 2nd choice haven server, err...sorry 2nd server wouldn't have interested me.

Ronin, I think once a suitable server mod is selected then THN people should apply to get a res slot through the forums, then a small group of people (admins if you like) decide internally who should get these slots. I don't think the criteria would be that strict afterall you have already been invited to join THN.

Maybe these appointed admins could police the server using the server mod?

Good decent players will come back to play in well policed servers meaning it's all the more attractive for us THN'ers to play on and also give us the pick for inviting new people to join and who knows what we could achieve in 2008 in an ED TF2 league.

New people could also bring more donations. I for one will offer my monthy donation to THN again if I am regularly playing on a THN server.

I think there is an opportunity here!

Res slots work by adding the person's steam ID to a text document and assigning the correct flags that will give them the reserved slot. By steam ID I mean the ID that is all numbers, not your steam community ID.

So once we get an admin mod installed, everyone on THN who plays TF2 will need to give me or whoever installs it their steam ID.
