Wol installs usb driver for device. all is good.

Wol generates new install for a device with a different PID, but the same driver as originally. Conflict due to differing device and DLL versions causes major fuck up that puts Wol back at least a day at work.

wol reinstalls the older driver, but still gets the error when trying to communicate with the device. windows / driver installer complains about a clash with another installed driver. Wol uninstalls all drivers and software related to it, including the driver cache and registry, reinstalls from scratch, and am still getting error......

any ideas why windows might be doing this?

Assuming you are on Vista or 7: Sounds like winsxs may have cocked up here, not sure how to repair that though

(if you don't know what it is, it stands for Windows Side-by-Side, and is MS's solution to DLL Hell. Google it)

Windows XP, not vista, luckily!

Just about to re-try it on my laptop from a clean install....
