This is something that I was implementing for myself (and that pest has also implemented for the AS servers) but would benefit the wider community as a whole so I'm going to open it up to anyone who is interested in benefiting.
A UT2004 web redirect allows anyone running an Unreal Tournament server to redirect map and mutator download requests to another server. As this uses the http protocol it is a very efficient way of distributing server files. This also means that for those running servers off slower connections (i.e. me off of ADSL) you can redirect clients to download from a different machine (in this case serenity) and therefore keep all your bandwidth for actually running the game.
So the plan is this, I will setup a virtual server ut2004.thehavennet.org.uk which will contain all of the compressed (bz2) files that I personally need hosting (around 3.5 GB so fairly comprehensive). I'm assuming pestcontrol will dump all of his accumulated AlienSwarm bz2 files in this directory as well. I'll also make sure that we have an ftp username and password so that trusted users (i.e. on request) can add to the store of files that we are hosting. Once all of this is done then anyone can take advantage of the files we mirror by setting up a web redirect in their own server.
If you've not run an UT2004 server before then this is probably of little interest but I suspect there are at least half a dozen THN'ers for whom this could be useful.
Let me know what you think and I'll get it setup in the next week.
