Well when I try to play a DVD on my computer and I use Windows media player or Real player there is the sound playing but there is only blackness on screen and there is no picture. I think it has something to do with codecs or something? So I was wondering if anyone knows a solution cus its really annoying not being able to play my DVDs :(

Sounds like a codec problem to me. This may help you out, though I warn you I have NOT got this software myself so I cannot recommend it or say it is good/bad/works, etc... but I found that after a little googling. May be what you need, especially as it is approved by Microsoft.

EDIT: I would, however, as I do not know whether this is a legit site or not, use an up to date virus scanner to scan any files you download just to be on the safe side :D

Not considered using a piece of DVD playing software, such as PowerDVD or WinDVD? I know WMP can do it, I suspect it isn't the best application for DVDs though.

Alternatively, you could invest in a DVD player, plug it into your TV and watch as many DVD's as you like. I think you can pick 'em up for about £50 now. I'd research it further for you, but my PC's being a bit slow today... I'll try again later.

Na dvd players are a thing of the past :P. What you want is a DivX player that can play Avi format. Their pretty cheap, i picked one up for only £70.

its best not to rely on your pc for everything, then if it crashed you kood watch DVD's and tv, itss taking over everything

My advice would be to get a licence for a program like Cyberlink's PowerDVD, which has a very good DVD decoder built in. Depending on the licence you get you may get 5.1 surround sound upmixers, etc. Also it works with Windows Media Player, although I'd not recommend it by a long shot. The actual PowerDVD player is far superior.

You could get a hardware PCI decoder but since these are so rare it's just as well forgetting them and getting a software decoder.
