Wheeeee Circles!

Something I came across (smirk) a couple of days ago:

http://blog.pixelbreaker.com/polarclock/

Funky screensaver, even if a bit borked on months with 31st's in them. Nicely customisable but could do with some extra tweaks. I was halfway through writing a calendar based on this 'ring' idea, but never got anywhere with finishing it off helpfull. Cant remember where the .fla source went either. :-(

Thought I'd share anyway :)

p.s. wol is hungry and would like some cookies ;-) heh

Saw this a while ago, it's pretty cool. I like weird clocks. Made an LED circular clock for AS-level electronics, which was SUPER FUN.

It would be fun to make a LED version of that which does change hue as it goes around. lots of wires though :S

I have this installed on my Work Computer (Vista HP, 32-bit) and whenever this activates it (for some unholy strange reason) takes the latest version of Windows Live Messenger down with it.... Windows reports that its Data Execution Prevention thingy has had to terminate the Windows Live Communication Framework. (Note: Screensaveer works though...)

Weird......

The only issue I have with it, is that when it gets to 359* to 0* to resets going all the way back around, why not just fade out and start a new circle going? That would look far better imho...

Either that or have the tail spin around and catch the head up which just goes from 59 to 0.

It also doesnt get the ends of months right. needs to add one to the number of days per month i think before working out the angle, as it finishes the day of month ring on the penultimate day of the month.

Since i found the lovely source file, I'm going to start making a better replica of this fancy clock, but with some things different.

1) black background, without the pixelbreaker thing
2) not getting the number of days in a month wrong
3) having the tails of the rings loop around rather than the heads scanning back.
4) ..... up to you.

Any comments / ideas / suggestions? :)

And then at the end once its all working, I can let you have a copy of it!

Some ambient music to play in the background while it's going? It's very relaxing I think and I quite like having it on when I'm reading.

Use winamp in the background? :p. Might consider this at a later date as its not direcly related to features.

Can you make it so that it doesnt crash my work pc plzkthxbai
Most likely. What currently causes it to crash your pc? As long as you have flash player installed it should be okay.

Scalable to desktop resolutions?
Doesnt it do this already? Or do you mean to automatically scale, rather than having to manually scale it? (e.g. mine goes up to 1920*1200 , but only cos I've set the radiuses and band sizes to be so).

I've also got a mini version of it sitting as my phone screensaver / background! looks cool.

Well, If its just a .swf on its own, then probably :p
I just wondered if it doesn't render well (I refused to use it because the rings annoyed me when the ended and went back to 0 :p)

I guess it already does it fine though as it's flash... duh

If you could auto scale... that'd be awesome, I have 1680 x 1050

I can't get it on iPhone :p so I can't have it as my wallpaper

Why can't you get it on iPhone? Too stingy to buy it? :p

It should just be a swf that happily scales to whatever.

iPhone doesn't do flash, so unless you make it in another language, there's no way it'd work ;)

you can still download the polarclock original version though and run it on an iPhone. Just you can't use mine :p.

How strange. I haven't had this problem till a couple of days ago, and it's suddenly started doing it. Only on my laptop, though. Bizzare
No-one found a solution, I presume?
