Where's my bass?

I've just removed my XFI sound card in order to try out SLI, and I'm having some issues getting certain games to sound right using the onboard sound (soundmax).

It's set to 5.1, bass plays in all the tests I've run. I've enabled "Sonic focus" to get bass working in movies and mp3's as well, all fine.

But certain games just have no bass, or very situational bass and I just can't fathom it. Whilst these games are running, I can alt tab to windows and run aformentioned tests and they also have no bass. Quit the game, run tests again, bass is back.

Just cause 2 - No bass
Saints row 3 - No bass outside, but explosions inside have a little bass
Alice: Madnes returns - Bass is fine
Binding of Isaac - Bass is fine
Cave Story+ - Bass is fine
Borderlands - Very weird, bass only plays on explosions nearby. Not music or other sfx.

(I'll add more as I test)

This is with the bass set to max in software and hardware.

Any ideas? :)

Was it a buttery biscuit bass? :D

...Might be that the games are not set to the right kind of audio output?

They don't have any options for type of output that I can see. :(

They worked fine on my XFI, though I did have to use bass redirect.

Fixed; had to turn "full range speakers" off in speaker options. Which is the opposite of how they're set up for the XFI (and yet technically the correct way)..

Are they actually Full Range speakers? Does each "speaker" have more than one speaker contained within it?

I know mine don't but they have tweeters on each unit though.

Nope they aren't, which is why I say it's correct to turn them off. I'm just used to having to have it on to get bass working on the XFI.

They are satellites.
