As we all know the new installment in the Elder scrools is out. But ive played Morrowind just a couple of minutes ago and i just noticed how much better the sky looks in Morrowind than Oblivion. Just want to see what other people think.

(I think the night sky looks fantastic in Morrowind, You must admit)

Wow, you think so? I happen to really like the night sky in Oblivion and don't really remember finding the one in Morrowind anything special. That said, I didn't really play much Morrowind and it was a fair while ago.

Got a screenie of a Morrowind sky? I'll try to (remember to) get one of an Oblivion sky and we can compare.

Having trouble getting a screenshot of Oblivion's sky. Anyone got any ideas how I take a screenshot in Oblivion? Print Screen doesn't appear to do the business.

You have to do the same thing you had to do with Morrowind. Open up the config settings (Oblivion_default.ini) with notepad and change "bAllowScreenShot=0" to 1 :D Then hit print screen :)

The transitions from night to day and vice versa look ace in Oblivion :).

On a slight tangent, the vegitation is much nicer in Ob, there are only so many giant brown/grey mushrooms I can take! I mean why set a hugh game in a massive swamp? Morrowind looked so dull! Though the silt striders looked cool :).

You weren't alone in finding that. There were more than a couple of mods for Morrowind to make things prettier and greener.

I really appreciate Oblivion's lush vegetation. I could just lie down and stare at the clouds... if it wasn't for the bandits. ;)

Morrowinds sky maybe looks better on clear nights when both moons are out, but I think oblivions is actually better, especially as all the consellations are in them this time -lol
and guys, Morrowind wasnt that pretty mainly becuase Vvardenfell is really just a large volcanic lump - lol - thats the reason why most places are made out of stone, metal, fungus or giant insect husks, because nothing grew properly in the area :P lol - I like Vardenfells coasts, but your probably right in saying Cyrodiils a much nicer looking area

It's set in a swamp because it's set in a swamp. I'd rather play a game set somewhere because it fits with the story and gameplay, than a game set somewhere because it'll look good :)

Yeah i loved Morrowinds setting :) I liked the coast the most. The valcano was a bit dodgy, but we all ahev to remeber how logn ago Morrowind came out and when Oblivion has come out :p

Looks like there was an extra step required to get a screenshot from Oblivion. Details stolen from another site below:

There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0
change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1
Also, two related items for the screenshots:
iScreenShotIndex=0
SScreenShotBaseName=Oblivion
There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini
Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.
After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.

Cheers for that Ronin... is that a flaming meteor I see? :)

Well it would appear that it's very close - Morrowind's night sky is indeed fascinating - however I believe it is limited by the fact that it is merely a texture, whereas Oblivion has some 3D rendering present :D.

I think Morrowind's moves as well, but I suppose I'm just going to have to get Oblivion to see the difference for myself... *mock heavy sigh*. :D

Yes Morrowind's sky moves too. In fact there was a console command that speeded up time, so you could look at the sun, moon and clouds hurtle past overhead like you see in some documentaries.

The difference between Morrowind and Oblivion's sky is that the sky, weather and day/night cycle was more revolutionary when you saw it for the first time in Morrowind. In Oblivion it's just the same, or might be improved a little, I can't remember Morrowind's sky enough to compare :)
