Some of us have [thread=1027]had a think[/thread] about the professions that we're interested in picking up. Unlike the classes, I don't think we need to make any serious declaration on this one just now, but if you do know what professions you're planning on taking then here's a good place to declare them.

Remember, you can only have up to two "Primary" professions, but as many of the "Secondary" professions as you desire.

There are, of course, some natural Primary pairs.

  • Mining, Blacksmithing
  • Mining, Engineering
  • Skinning, Leatherworking
  • Herbalism, Alchemy

Arguably, Tailoring and Enchanting mix well too.

Other thoughts:

  • As a Mage, Cooking is not a great choice. You can conjure food and water. Accordingly, Fishing doesn't help much.
  • As a Tailor, First Aid is a poor choice (initially) as it competes for Linen and Wool and so on.
  • If you're not interested in making stuff you could still take two Primary Gathering professions to either hand raw materials to the others or just put up for sale on the Auction House.
  • Enchanting makes no money for quite some time, and the good recipes are extremely expensive. However, glowing weapons are cool, and the permanent equipment buffs are hard to say no to.

So, give it some thought and shout out as and when you choose your professions for your first character.

I'm torn on this one. As I'm planning to play a Mage I think I'll take Tailoring, but I don't want to compete with Fury for Enchanting resources (it's hard enough without two people needing green kit! :) ).

I'll probably just pick up Tailoring to start with and see how we do. Everyone always needs bags. :)

See Im thinking if I go druid, tailoring and enchanting don't go well with it, I probably would be better off with leatherworking and skinning. Problem is I did that on my Hunter and it was alright...... arggg i keep changing my mind :)

I'm going with Skinning and Leatherworking for my orc Hunter. I will also be taking cooking and fishing for sure, as I will have hungry pets to feed!

Not decided for my troll Shaman. Herbalism and Alchemy is a natural class choice, but I might wait and see what is covered and decide then. However, I will *not* be enchanting - I just don't have that kind of patience!

I think we have missed another combo which works very well... Tailoring/ Enchanting ... tailoring is a self reliant prof but enchanting is rlly a gr8 one to go wth this!??

Ive gone with the one that fitted more with my druid Ronin so I have got Leatherworking and Skinning.

Since I'm a druid I don't need any of the cloth so I'll send it all to you Ronin that I get. Should help you out :) I'll just come begging for some enchantments :)

In which case I'm going Tailoring-Enchanting. And I'll be begging spare green items off, well, everyone. If you want cool glowing weapons (for free) start stocking up on that green stuff! :)
