I am proposing our own WoW website. When we get new member and point them to our website, I can only guess that they are dissapointed by just a forum.

WoW.thehavennet.org.uk would give:

  • News - What are we planning to do? We want to do BRD and what a better way to broadcast it. How about news on our last guild meet?
  • Guild Bank - What have we got that we want to give out? With our new PHP addon that Ronin should be adding soon, it will show us what you want to take out, and add in.
  • Forums - A link to these forums, but with a design, other than Blue/Amber, like Horde Characters etc.
  • Guild Members - Ranks, Proffessions, Level etc.

Also, when we do instances, we frequently have to get non-THN members to group with us. An easier thing to do, rather than tell them about teamspeak, our playing style etc. Would be to send them to

wow.thehavennet.org.uk/raiding.html

This could give our teamspeak IP, our playing styles and vital news, rather than having to tell them about it through party chat.

Suggestions?

Certainly is a very good idea, although if we start directing people to our TS server, we'd need to be careful about inviting people into it.

Don't really have anything against it... go for it, Nanners!

I think that a bigger issue is probably that they don't understand usergroups so don't ever find the WoW bit so figure that we don't actually have any WoW-based discussion. I need to work on that but haven't had chance.

That said, I've been running boards alongside games for MMOs for years now and I've found that less than 25% of the MMO players have any interest in a board at all; they're wanting to play the game, not chat on a forum, as far as I can tell. Events announced on the forum pass them by completely. In one instance, some even complained that too much time was being spent by the organisers on the forum and too little time was being spent in-game. My point here is really that the forum is likely to support only a portion of The Haven guild's members and you will likely need to keep that in mind as the guild grows.

Pretty straight forward, though you could emulate that feature in this forum by posting particular threads as "News" and also splitting conversations off from old threads when you have new ideas rather than continuing pretty generic threads.

Not that soon, unfortunately. I have been pitched a curve ball that is taking a fair bit of time and energy so this is a background task for me. Haven might be able to help (and, in fact, I'd need Haven to set the wow. bit up anyhow).

vBulletin styles are applied either on a per-user basis, therefore requiring people to have a sign-on here and be logged in for that style to apply, or on a per-forum basis, overriding a user's chosen style for a particular forum.

This means that either a user chooses a WoW style for the entire forum, or we force all users to use a WoW style in the WoW forum. Neither is quite what you had in mind, I think.

However, the style thing is an excellent idea. Needs some work...

At least one instance of one of the guild bank tools also allowed people to upload their own details so that this was managed automagically. That could be pretty slick.

...

Give Haven a poke and ask him if he can set up the wow. domain and we can work it from there.

Will do :)

In the meantime, here is an example of what the page could look like. Not exactly the same, but something similar. :)
