Wrath - so whaddya think?

Well, having started a Death Knight and had a peek at the two Northrend starting zones, my first impression of Wrath is...

WOW!

The zone design is amazing, I think Howling Fjord is more striking in appearance, but Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra is the most impressive Horde base in the game.

Having done Utgarde Keep and The Nexus, Blizz certainly seem to have outdone themselves with the dungeon design. Utgarde is more conventional, but I like the mix of indoor and outdoor areas. The Nexus is just plain WTF?! - visually stunning, although a bit hard to work out what's supposed to be going on.

On top of that, big thumbs up to Blizz for the music, really sets off the atmosphere to the zones without being intrusive.

I've got three characters to level from 70 to 80, and it certainly doesn't look like I'm going to get bored anytime soon, it's a bit overwhelming at the moment because whichever path you choose, you feel like you're missing out on some really cool stuff somewhere else!

Early days yet, but it looks like the long wait was worthwhile. I just hope that the rest of Northrend lives up to this early promise :)

Let's see now.. Wrath

LOVING it!

  • Death Knights are made properly(as they should be) and are according to the lore. The starting area for DK is epic. No doubt about it. Considering the level one starts at. The quests are semi-hard. Yet highly doable alone. And they aren't long-drawn and boring. There is -constantly- something to do and there are some hilarious parts on it. Example: They want you to steal a steed. Just for giggles. Grab the -smallest- one you can find and ride around on it, teasing the Scarlets :D (Would look really awesome with a Tauren, by the way :p )

  • Northrend is buildt on the old Warcraft II and III setup. Also according to lore.
  • The skinning of the tundra is taken old Warcraft.

  • Great music. Awesome encounters.

In short. THIS is what was missing to make the game FUN for me again. NOW we are playing Warcraft and not "Make my gear look like something out of Fisherprice" (A.K.A; TbC) :p

So far, I finally got to see the DK final quest's cut scene properly (my beta client crapped out insanely when I leveled him), and it was quite nice to see that, even considering some uncertainty regarding a couple nerfs from beta to live that forced me to rearrange my talents considerably, the class maintains some solid rotations and the complex gameplay I came to love when I tried him.

As far as locations are concerned, they are indeed stunning, and I can't wait to go to instances without having the most obnoxious ping in history (although Lith did tell me that EU beta was even worse in that aspect than the US Beta I logged on to). Given my reputation as a fast leveler, I presume it won't take too long for me to breeze past Outland and take Bloodgorge to join you in new adventures! :)

EDIT: Fae, I did roll a Tauren DK on beta and stole a pigmy-sized mare - priceless! :D

Nexus was so fun, although it was a maze the design and big in size made it was still a very fun instance and epic aesthetic value.

Also, nothing beats roaring around the lower half of the Borean Tundra in a seige tank, using the saw blade and charging down 100 zombies lawnmower style.
