Nope, not personally the media's take on this pisses me off. Microsoft try to keep their service, which they own and run, as PG-13 as possible, and people complain. If they did nothing, parents would complain that their kids could see words like fuck. Or some government body puts an 18 age limit on the service due to some old law, and they lose half their subscribers. Yes, some people are affected by the system, but 99.99% aren't and can therefore ask that Microsoft sort it out for them. Hell, banks and government systems work 99.99% of the time and people suck it up, but the media points out the 3 cases that don't work, ignoring the other millions that do. I would get annoyed if it happened to me, but I there was a process to help me, I'd realise that it's not really their fault.

But whatever...

The issue is that people are asshats. While there are perfectly reasonable and suitably humourous ways to use profanity, the fact of that matter is that in an online service like that people use it almost exclusively to berate other users.

Note that the article also states they treat it on a case-by-case basis. Users who are using boderline phrases reasonably are likely to have no issue, but folks who are just trying to be obscene will run into trouble.

Similar to something we talked about a short while ago...

I was so tempted to go through Eld's reply then and edit any profanity out and replace it with flowery words instead :D

So parents are okay with me violently killing their 14 year old son, but when it comes to me saying 'frak'...

Who the hell uses that word anyway? xD

I don't believe this has anything to do with parents, and it most certainly doesn't have anything to do with games, oddly enough.

Hasnt inhibited my gaming in any way, shape or form. Then again i'm not a complete dickhead.

So parents are okay with me violently killing their 14 year old son, but when it comes to me saying 'frak'....

I believe the south park movie is basically all about that topic.

"Men, when you are out there on the field of battle, a you're looking into the beady eyes of the canadian as he charges you with his hockey stick or whatever he has and people are dying all around you just remember what the MPAA says. Horrific deplorable violence is OK as long as people dont say any naught words. That is what this war is all about!".

Anyhow. Back to the discussion:
The censorship is going to go too far and Live! and forum-wars will be started as result of this (It has happened before and it will happen again).
But if I know M$, I believe that any "threats" toward their ways of doing this will get glossed over and threads/threats removed from sight and they will continiue with this.
These wars will contain a lot of flame-spam(as usual from those that know no other way to express the frustration/anger they feel about it) and heavy-set discussions.
Results will be bans. A LOT of bans.

The way I see it, is that this will get out of hand and a lot of grief will be shown from customers/gamers in the end.

So what will the future hold? M$ Live! network being one gigantic Teletubbie?
Herecy! Herecy I tells ya! Teletubbies are evil and should be purged with righteous fire! :p

Spotted it and went through some stuff.
As it turns out, this is still an on-going topic on the web. So thought it might be fun to see if people have anything to say about it now ;)

Now that would be too cool for words to describe. Using M$' own things against them like that :p

My latest friend on xbox is IluvdoginUrmum

Now I'm amazed no one has complained about that one :p.

Sooner or later, they'll sit there for hours on end, trying to figure out what it means :p
I reckon it will take the XBox Team about two weeks to figure it out, while they browse the Urban Dictionary, finding nothing :D
