In Cryo Sleep
Here's an IGN review of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, which was released today (Jan 12th) by the way.
I'm not too up to speed with this game (I never really took interest in it) so my rundown might be a bit off in terms of accuracy.
Basically, you play a bunch of guys on a snowy (and very cold. very very cold.) planet who are being oppressed by a bunch of bugs, the Akrid. You can fight against them on foot with firearms, or you can fight with mechanical vehicles called 'vital suits' that are bigger and better (and probably more comfortable) than hoofing it about in the snow.
It's an action game, and to make sure there is plenty of action the developers have implemented some kind of jiggery pokery to do with collecting strangely resourceful orange goop (that the bugs handily drop) to keep out the cold winter. Your goop gauge is shown somewhere on the screen, and if it runs out (i.e. if you run and hide and don't kill kill kill for goop) your goop gauge hits zero and you start to freeze to death.
Anyway, I'll let you read the rest for yourself.
