[X360/PS3/PC] Battlefield 1943

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this up until now, but there's another installment in the Battlefield series coming out in June - Battlefield 1943.

It's basically a redone version of Battlefield 1942 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, using the Frostbite engine which gave Battlefield:Bad Company its (semi)destructable envirnoments. It only has three maps from the off, which has prompted a few outbursts of consternation from the Battlefield loyal, but if the three that are included - Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and the timeless Wake Island - are as fun to play as they were in 1942, then there can't be too much to complain about. Especially since it'll be going for the princely sum of 15 bucks US, or 1200 MS points if you plan to buy it for the Xbox 360 (which I very well might).

Baws, I looked two-pages worth of Games Chat threads backwards to see if anyone had made a thread, I should have looked three pages back.

Yeah, that crossed my mind :p I actually didn't know it was being released for PC until I went hunting for the website link today, I thought it was console exclusive up until then. Now I'm left in a quandry; I want a good team shooter game to play over Xbox live, but I want to play it with you lot at i37 as well if it's popular. Damn!

Now I play with guys from work on xbox live I'm in that situation as well. If it is going to be my new FPS/game of choice then I want it on PC but who knows. We shall see.

I believe that the PC port won't be out until later this fall, so I wouldn't count on playing it at i37

Port being the operative word. Get it for the consoles, guys. Seeing this on the PC will probably make you shed a tear. :(

First, I apologise to PsiSoldier - I really didn't mean to cast your 1943 thread aside :p but since this one is active now I'll just add to it.

I was looking on Gamespot there, which I haven't visited since their reviews hit rock bottom on the credibility scale. They're picking back up now though, by the looks of things, where Eurogamer have fallen into the abyss. So, I give to you some Iwo Jima gameplay footage of the BF1943 demo, talked through by Patrick Yu, a 'senior producer' of the game.

Yeah, he made quite a few contradictory statements did Mr. Yu. Virtually the first thing he mentions is how they strove to make 1943 more realistic than it's predecessor, claiming a less saturated colour palette (which I failed to notice, it looked just as bright as ever) and a more refined 'destruction engine' amongst other things, and then you learn that health regenerates and that there are no medics.
He didn't exactly hold Bad Company in high regard, either, making allusions to the idea that the Frostbite engine was at that time unrefined and buggy, and that the squad system (which I actually thought worked quite nicely in BC) was just plain bad.
All the same, I thought that brief glimpse at gameplay was pretty encouraging and looks like it might be a really good slice of fun on the consoles, if not so much for PC.

Defo not getting for PC now. It looked particularly meh tbh. OK as the guy says it is a download in the arcade so can't expect massive uber game on the level of other BF games.

I'm just annoyed as I want a new complete uber BF game, or in fact any new decent FPS.

Been such long time since we've had a new good FPS.

Yeah in-time for november Lan, for CoD4 we were able to pre-order it to arrive at the lan :) (released there due to activision turning up with boxes of them, before general release :D)

Damn straight, it's not made by Treyarch, there for they've already beaten the CoD5 "benchmark"!

CoD3 and CoD5 were both good on Xbox, but CoD5 suffered from a couple of dumb decisions. Attack dogs! two-hit kill rifles! and the fact that either side could choose any weapon. Japanese with Thompson SMGs? I think not, kind sir. It spoiled a good game.
