[DF] Year Five - Deja Vu. . . .

Well, I heard that there were some troubles in this ancestors-forgiven fortress, but it seems that they've made things out to be worse than they really are!

9th Granite, 1066

I noticed a goblin running around outside the fortress murdering kittens and I decided I wouldn't have any more of that! After fiddling about with the different levers I opened to moat and. . . then I noticed the 20 or so goblins over the horizon.

In the name of protecting kittens, however, many dwarves could die so I ordered the charge!

Surprisingly we have suffered not a single casualty and murdered many a goblin, the siege is now officially broken too! So back to normality, once I figure out what actually needs to be done. . . .

22nd Granite, 1066

Sadly, Zuntir Rigothkathail has died from thirst, something about a mandate. . . .

Ah well, Dwarves are happily running around outside the fortress, chopping down trees, catching fish, and delving deeper into the earth!

2nd Slate, 1066

Migrants have arrived! They aren't even calling this place "dangerous", things are certainly looking better here! 114 Dwarves altogether. They don't seem to have any good skills though.

Haven't noticed any criminals!

Did just notice that the Mayor has no rooms so I gave him the area that I think belonged to the guy in the masoleum, will build another one for this mayor I think.

I've also added a wall and doors to the tiny burial chamber near the living quarters, I think we will probably need a bigger set of tombs, maybe not so close to where people live?

No-one wants to move the dead body of the guy in the Bowyer's, we're having miasma issues now. . . .

5th Felsite, 1066

Erush Zanegkes, the planter, has been taken by a Fey mood: ancestors help us all. . . .

He's taken a Metalsmith's Forge.

8th Felsite, 1066

He's begun construction! Thank goodness!

Huzzah! We have Razmesir Lam Rilem "Teethshower the Stone of Youth", an iron hatch cover!

It is encrusted with carnelian and encircled with bands of siltstone. This object is adorned with hanging rings of horse leather and menaces with spikes of iron, cave spider silk, and carnelian. On the item is an image of Cusplather the Spike of Clashes the siltstone door in siltstone.

23rd Hematite, 1066

More migrants! Not that many though, sadly, we're up to 122 dwarves! It will be difficult to kill this lot. Though I should probably increase the military size, not very experienced with that though. . . .

2nd Galena, 1066

Great, that guy who died in the Bowyer's still hasn't been buried (why are my dwarves not dealing with him?) and so he's started haunting us.

19th Galena, 1066

Human caravan! Huzzah, they'll buy things with wood in them.

We also have another awesome artefact!

Ital Nar, "The Neutrality of Oblivion", an iron right gauntlet

Encrusted with turquoise studded with iron and encircled with bands of jet onyx and bauxite. This object menaces with spikes of feather wood. On the item is an image of a cave wheat in donkey bone.

6th of Sandstone, 1066

10 more immigrants! We're at 132 now, I think we're heading towards the Dwarf limit. . . .

15th Moonstone, 1066

Kobold thief! Luckily we have many dwarves to deal with him. Kobold is quite dead now!

Also, there seems to be an issue in that every dwarf is complaining they can't clean themselves, I think we're going to need to make a bath.

10th Opal, 1066

Zuglar Lolorlaltur has been taken by a fey mood and taken over the Jeweler's Workshop, what's with all these mad dwarves?!

13th Opal, 1066

Oh boy: The Forgotten Beast Defiyi has come! An enormous skinless pterosaur. It has three long, hanging tails and it undulates rhythmically. Beware its deadly dust!

It appears to be in the caves under the fortress.

15th Opal, 1066

Zulgar Lolorlaltur has built Fath Alis, a perfect white chalcedony!

Fath Alis, "The Sacks of Kissing", a perfect white chalcedony

It is adorned with hanging rings of white chalcedony, no funny pictures or anything. I am disappointed!

1st Obsidian, 1066

Another Kobold Thief! Easily dealt with again by our military. Also, that legendary beast is still lurking somewhere down in the caverns, doesn't seem to have found us yet.

23rd Obsidian, 1066

Goblin Ambush! Let's kill 'em!

Entire Goblin ambushed slaughtered with only a war dog dead. Don't think any of the dwarves are too badly injured either.

Well, 28th of Obsidian has arrived and Spring is here!

Several kobolds were killed after the ambush was dealt with, and we have four dwarves in the hospital, one has a spine injury but is just a cheese-maker and she seems to have been there the whole year.

I've expanded the bed-rooms and started putting tables, chairs, and cabinets in them as well as smoothing everything. Built a new dining area and engraved it too! Basically my time here has been an episode of Home Improvement. . . .

Someone will probably want to check to make sure I haven't broken the military training schedules, and I think I deleted the Main Burrow burrow designation!

Also, need to find out why the Dwarves can't clean themselves, I think a bath might need building. . . . Also I've set water-source/fishing areas by the river, which might need removing next time a siege appears.

Don't forget the legendary three-tailed skinless beast that's lurking in the caverns too, probably a bad idea to go down there for a while.

Save file will be uploaded soon and can be found here:

Good luck to the next leader!

Thanks Xar!

I can't realistically pick up this week either on account of work needing doing. I think that puts it to Trax next...

I have realised, that D is next in line for this, and not me! Which means that Carps and I can both pump our 'weeks' out over i42 next weekend providing us with some crazy lolz (were sat next to each other anyway!)

So D, it's your turn, As it is mid-week and I'll be taking the mantle after you, I have no problem waiting until next Thursday/ Friday for your week to finish :)

Yeah this won't be happening. Simply don't have the motivation to go back to this fortress.

Did you want to do the stricter option that you suggested? otherwise carps and I can bash this fortress out over i42 and (two weeks in a couple of days :D)

It was a new progression game with a different turn structure. Doesn't affect this one at all...

If we've come to a stall point in this game, perhaps this is the time to look at that?
Carps and I will have no problems doing the next two weeks worth of this game at i42, which should put us back on some form of track, otherwise I have no problems with a tighter run schedule from D.

I imagine us sitting there playing DF would be highly entertaining for us both :)

Well, sure. Feel free to carry on with it. It's our game, not mine. I just don't have the space for it right now, nor will for another couple of weeks at least.

I'm all for a more accurately managed game. I'd also be up for just doing the last fort at i42. Probably prefer both.

As for this fortress i think the cave really had us on the back foot from the start. I hate caves.

Hoy, :)

I too would want to revisit this fortress. The mega-crash left me wanting to so something... :(

Cheers,
J.
