Sure I can. Simple as that.
The Game's ruleset is roughly the equivalent of me making up a rule that says, "Anytime I post on this forum, you all must pay me £5. There is no opt out and you may not refuse. You must tell everyone you meet that they also must pay me £5." No one's buying into that rule, are they? (And if you are, you can Paypal me that fiver you owe me for this post...
)
Similarly, there's no need for me (or anyone) to buy into The Game's rules just because The Game defines itself as having me involved -- that would be a mad case of an abstract defining a real thing, where my quick survey of things abstract would seem to indicate that abstracts are defined by generalising (abstracting) reality. Maths would be the only abstract that one might argue to exist ex-reality, and even there that is philosophically arguable.
So, The Game, as an abstract concept, only has as much sway for me as any other abstract concept, and this one has no compelling qualities as does, say, utopia or enlightenment.

just to be clear that I don't buy this "you know it so you're playing"... I know about genocide, but I'm not playing at that either! ]
