Your Class - Thoughts and Opinions

So I've been over to the forums at Warhammer Alliance and they actually have separate forums for every class in the game. So I got to looking at my class - Shadow Warrior. There's a big debate going on at the moment that Shadow Warriors are too underpowered, and that there are even some melee classes that can outdamage us at melee and even have longer distances for some of their ranged attacks. Others say it is a class that need a really skilled player to play it.

I personally find it underpowered, especially in RvR. I mean 1 vs 1 your really not going to win any battles, perhaps against a squig herder or something but rarely, and then even when your on a team, as soon as the opposing player/group has a healer with them, then your just wasting your time, all your dps just gets healed back very easily. Sure Shadow warriors sometimes rank high on the Scenario leaderboards but most of the damage/kills however most of the dps you do just gets healed back and then a melee player or BW or something similar, regardless of the healing it still goes towards your hit points, and when a player dies that you've inflicted any amount of damage on, you will get a kill assist for it.

I've really not had that much time to play WAR since it came out, So I'm still only lvl 14, however from reading the forums over at Warhammer Allaince the higher level'd players are finding it much the same.

I currently think that SW's and Squid Herders need to be re-examined by the War team. If they come back and say - "No the classes are fine, most people just aren't playing them the way they are meant to be played" then fine I'll accept it and try harder or roll another class, However I do firmly believe that they've made the class just too underpowered.

Anyway that's the thoughts on my Class, I'd like to hear what you feel about your class, or if you have any comments about any other classes.

My friend plays a squig herder, and so far he hasn't complained about feeling underpowered. That could, of course, be because squig herders do work slightly differently to SWs, and its those differences that SWs lack which are making them underpowered...

Having not played a shadow warrior, I must admit I'm not an expert on the differences, but I believe the main two are pets for SHs, and SWs can stealth (?) Stealth in RvR I would imagine to be very useful, as it causes me no amount of hassle as a magus, when Im suddenly snared or rooted as some crazy order fellow jumps out of stealth.

I know my SH friend just stacks ballistic skill wherever possible, and it seems to work for him. So it could be the itemisation for the classes too...

Im quite happy with my magus overall. Apparantly Im also underpowered, but I dont feel like I am. The skills I have are pretty much the same as those of the sorcerer, and even the squig herder, in terms of effects, just named differently. The sorcerer is definitely overpowered however, due to their backlash meter abilities. For those of you who havent played a BW/Sorcerer this is basically a bar that builds as you cast, making you spells more powerful, but at the same time causing you to take damage when you cast. The benefits seem to massively outweigh the cons though, as if just one healer stays with a sorcerer the damage output is insane.

My magus has stationary summons in the form of pink/blue horrors and a flamer, which is the only real difference between myself and a sorcerer. These daemons dont seem to make up for the DPS loss at not having backlash however, but overall I have better survivability.

It seems to me that each archetype has pretty much the same skills, as I said earlier, and each side has a class that plays almost identically to each other.

As far as I can tell, the matching classes are as follows:

Order
Destruction

Bright Wizard
Sorcerer
Shadow Warrior
Squig Herder
Engineer
Magus

Archmage
Shaman
Runepriest
Zealot
Warrior Priest
Disciple of Khaine

Swordmaster
Black Orc
Ironbreaker
Chosen

Witch Hunter
Witch Elf
White Lion
Marauder

Its only the two melee classes each side that dont seem to pair up properly, as White Lions are the only melee class to have a pet, and Witch Hunters work on a "combo points" system that no other class does (from what Ive seen)
The others all seem to match pretty well I feel.

Just as a side, my Magus is now level 21, and my friend's Squig Herder is level 23, so it could be that things change higher up :)

Witch elf here.

Can't complain about my DPS in PvE although I die horribly if I get 2-3 adds by accident.

I've been told my class gets a lot better at a higher level (I think it was 18?) where apaprently I learn to break out of roots. Good to know because being pure melee and squishy I kinda need some escape mechanism - PvP is a bit of a struggle in the meantime with me completely depending on my allies to distract order whilst I nip at their backs.

I can't comment on my Shamy's (lv 18) damage as i am spec'd, geared and tactic'd for healing, i have taken 3 mobs all 1 lv higher than me and not come close to dying, killing anything takes for ever but that is to be expected. Fighting a tanking class is point less as nothing happens, except when i get knocked 1/2 way across the map, somthing needs to be done about the distance it is stupidly far. Against a dps class i can normaly keep my self up and do pathetic damage with DoTs only when a bright wizard goes all out on me will i drop like a brick as no one can keep up with their damage healing wise.

My Sorceress (lv 13) can two shot most things on lv when at max power but with every shot there is a 50% chance to deal about 1/6 of my life total, and having the defense of a wet tissue if any thing gets close or even looks at her she normaly is hurting badly or dead.

The white lions annoy the hell out of me as well as turrets as i mostly play my shammy and healing draws the attention of most things and with a name like Docktar and coming top of healing in practicaly all BG's i am normaly targeted atm :p.

All in all i am enjoying it alot and i hope u guys are as well

I forgot to mention the best thing about Witch Elves - we wear the least clothing and have the sexiest asses. Good choice tbh!

I'm playing a bunch of different things so I'm a bit behind in levels but have a wider feel.

In order of level, highest to lowest:

Elf White Lion (level 10)

Plays quite like the Hunter class in WoW, except that you're not a ranged DPS, you're a melee DPS. That said, my Hunter in WoW was balanced across the both so...

I find that I can put out good damage and survive in a small bundle but with my power split across the Elf and the Lion I find that in a serious battle I go down quite quickly. There's a High Elf chapter 3 public quest that's pretty much impossible without a lot of high level players all working closely together and I feel my crunchiness just about that point.

The first morale ability goes a long way to evening up the difference between the White Lion and other DPS classes; I felt a bit underpowered 'til that came in and now I can slap down 1200 points of damage from time to time.

Effective in RvR, though I've usually been outranked by the people I'm fighting so I can't tell for sure. Should try again now I'm higher level.

Currently playing this class mostly solo, except for the ad-hoc groups for PQs and RvR scenarios.

All in all, though, the class plays pretty well though I haven't found a reliable way of recalling the lion after it decides it wants to attack.

I haven't found a way to name my War Lion, which is a shame as I want a little more personalisation.

Dwarf Ironbreaker (level 7)

I swapped out my one handed axe and shield for a two handed axe and now I'm regretting it as I can't stand up when there's serious beating incoming. That said, the Grudge system works pretty well and being able to nominate a group member as the person you're defending means you can build up grudges twice as fast if the enemy turn on them, so you can hit back even harder. Rolling combat is a good idea for the Ironbreaker to keep the grudges current, though they do fade surprisingly fast.

Currently playing as part of a duo with a Dwarf Engineer, and the two complement each other well but lack any healing, which is a problem at times.

Good for a "hit things lots" kind of play but, accordingly, not very complex to play.

Human Bright Mage (level 6)

Probably the most fun to play, so far. Casting most spells builds up Combustion. Combustion increases your chance of a backfire on a spell, causing you damage. However, Combustion can also be spent in a big blast and increases the criticals chance on your spells. It's a fine balance and, to be honest, I take most damage from my own spells... :p

Effective at nuking. Really not a lot else to be said. Currently playing solo.

Human Witch Hunter (level 3)

Just introduced this character last night so not much experience but the general feel of the class is very swashbuckling. Their Accusations, which operate a bit like Combo Points for Rogues in WoW, are actually usable against any target, not just the target they earned them against. Off hand pistol, main hand rapier. All very Errol Flynn.

Not found any bad balance so far in the ones I've played. Always felt like a useful part of a group.

well im on lev 13 and will b gettin to 20 before Lich king hopfully.. my opinion...actually very good!

couple of dots which put us high on the leaderboard and always the chance to run away healin yourself..and if needed can do quiet high sustained damage..altogether a good class altho im now speccing more dps to change into a shadow preist varient but its pretty balanced and we die pretty easy if u can get on us.

Gid's an Archmage I believe :)

Whether he is referring to that character or not is another matter I guess

Ok i'm a lvl 25 Shadow Warrior at the moment and finding it fun in RvR but a struggle for PvE. the Damage output does lack a bit but i've noticed since i hit Tier 3 areas and entered the T3 scenarioes it's become much better dmg. I can solo most casters now without a problem. but most 1v1 encounters end in tiers for me

Having not played a shadow warrior, I must admit I'm not an expert on the differences, but I believe the main two are pets for SHs, and SWs can stealth (?) Shadow Warriors can not stealth just so you know. unless I have missed something serious for my class. since i've been playing on Order i think it's only the witch hunter that can stealth.

Yeah, after reading the class forums a bit I realised you guys couldnt stealth. I find that a bit odd to be honest, as of all the classes in the game a Shadow Warrior seems most suited to it.
T3 does seem to improve things alot, alot of the skills I seem to be getting now are far more oriented to crowd control, or just generally useful RvR skills.
It'll be interesting to see which classes still feel they're lacking at 40.

I have no idea how powerful stealth is tbh, on the witch elf I do seem to be able to get behind enemy lines but I have to keep quite a bit of distance.

Yeah, I've had a run of low level Witch Elves running amok in the backfield on RvR battlegrounds but they've never turned out to be a serious issue. Not like effin' Rogues.
