Factorio - building factories like a baus

What up ladies n gents,
I'd like to point your attention to Factorio, a game where you single-handedly build, manage and fine-tune a factory on an alien planet as a sole survivor of a space-vessel crash. It has aspects of survival, management, city-building and...other things.

Take a look at their promotional video here:

Download a demo here. If the page doesn't load for you, you might wanna set your DNS to 8.8.8.8, it's some sort of weird ISP issue they got going on.

If it piqued your interest, the game is currently on indiegogo here, trailing behind its goal, which is why I'm trying to spread the word - I certainly think the game is really fun!

It looks like it could be interesting but the art and how cluttered it looks mean I'll be giving it a miss.

Well that was an evening well spent - simplistic game, but easy to create complex monstrosities given a short while! Already pledged on that one! :D

You can build sentries, but it doesn't appear to have any of the strategy a tower defense game would typically have.

Right? I haven't finished the demo yet, so it may still redeem itself, but so far the combat is a joke and adds nothing of value.

In short, yes. The combat seems braindead to me as well - but then again I don't have rockets and lasers and flamethrowers and piercing ammo and... ... ...like I would later in the game.

Do mind, that this is a very early alpha - they originally didn't plan on releasing it so soon, but with the indiegogo campaign they pushed it out anyway for people to see as-is. Needless to say there will be huge improvements up to and following further development and release.

But from what I think, combat will not be the focus of the game - building complex machinery will be :)

And that's what I want! Just... why have combat at all? Right now it's a game about building complex machinery and also occasionally running backwards, holding the spacebar.

Hah, yeah! That's true :P

If you don't want to have creepers, it's possible to edit them out in \data\lualib\freeplay.lua and I imagine later releases will have something like "peaceful" mode as well.
