So a couple of days ago, I received an email from some guy, Ibraham Ahmed. Guess what? Monies for me! It's the same email Haven was sent. Anyway, through various emails, I asked him if there was some way he could verify himself and he sent this picture. Yeah, pretty obviously photoshopped, but, can I get some tips on how to waste this guys time and money? This was the method attached:

Dear Roq,
Thanks for your reply . Am so much happy to hear from you again.
Well to be frank with you because in a business like this we have to build trust and without trust, nothing can be done.
As a matter of fact i am attaching my international passport for your perusal .
Meanwhile you have to send yours to me for more familiarlity and also call me so that we can discuss.
waiting to hear from you soonest.
Best regard.
Ibrahim.

Stating he's from Burkina Faso, could somebody help find out where this phone number is from? What should I reply?

1) Don't call the number. BAD IDEA.
2) Re-photoshop the passport with a picture of some guy from google image search, and change like 1 digit in the passport number. Or get someone from THN who is uber with PS (as I know some are) to make you a fake passport with some fake info on to send him.
3) If he wants you to give him your bank details state that you have a bad credit rating in the UK, and need £100 in order to open a new account, or the bank will refuse. You, of course, don't have an account at the moment, or the £100 needed to open one. If he sends you this £100, make sure you give it to a charity. Or, just give him the paypal of some charity and say he head it up as a tax dodge or something.
4) Rinse and repeat.

HOWEVER, don't get too cocky or it could get nasty. And only do the above if you are willing to. Not sure how legal it is, so you might want to check that out too!

In short, walk away. Do not respond. Do not get involved.

I responded about two days ago and I just responded by saying:

Dear Ibrahim,

I must admit I have not been 100% honest with you, my name is not Roq Wen, it is Marton Ó Cuinn, and I am a 22 year old man. All my other details are corret. I believe your crudentials are legit, should we get to the next step of business?

With regards

Marton Ó Cuinn

My photoshopped passport.

Probably nothing, if you're smart and cover your tracks. But even so, this guy is likely a career criminal. These are the kinds of people you generally don't want to piss off.

Posting the information you put in the email openly on a public forum is not really covering your tracks, either. Good luck with that.

Don't get involved with money, it could become messy. But waste the bastards time, make him think that he's got a deal with you, then send him an e-mail that goes something along the lines of f**k off you scamming cheating b*****d I hate you if I ever meet you I will rip your f*****g balls off you useless p***k.

And there goes all my anger :)

Someone advised me to send him a .zip with my credit details in it and put a virus in it. Advisable?

Oh, and he doesn't know my second name.

Once again, nothing you've done so far is advisable.

Though I'm sure he'd love to harvest the info from your bebo account you have linked here...

Yeah, maybe Big D is right. If you mess him around too much, he could turn nasty and completely abuse you. Might be an idea to just tell him where to stick it and never talk to him again. /backtrack

You've got to figure that, on balance, he's got more time to put at it than you and has probably got a lot more experience at playing this sort of game. You're assuming that his emails will be received on a Windows system, not a compromised botnet node that he uses some text-only client. You're assuming that you're not giving away valuable information merely by responding. Using an anonymiser service to send your email through? No? The message headers contain a complete relay path back to your machine that I can track you through and I have no experience with attempting 409-style scams. You can betcha that the other guy's relay headers are forged from node 1. Fine, it's not much to go on but it's part of a catalogue of information that can build up over time.

You gain nothing by interacting and stand only to lose. If nothing else you lose time and energy that could be spent doing something (anything!) more useful / fun / interesting.

Seriously, just walk away.

I hope you arent emailing back from the address he emailed you on. If you are, stop immediately. Ignore him from your good account or things could end up getting very murky indeed.

Instead, block him on that account and then set up a hotmail/gmail account with a fake name. That way its much harder to trace, and your own personal email isn't being used.

At the end of the day I'd advise thuswise: You shouldn't have tried to poke fun in the first place. Quit whilst you're ahead.
