Ping!

From a few weeks back I've been noticing that I'm getting god awful pings in TF2 and other games. I thought it would eventually sort itself out, but it hasn't. It hasn't really bothered me until I got MW2 for Christmas and since I can't manually choose a server like other games I can't pick one with an acceptable ping and thusly am unable to play.

A quick ping to THN for 20 packets gives me:
Code:
Ping statistics for 87.117.203.96:
    Packets: Sent = 20, Received = 20, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 237ms, Maximum = 936ms, Average = 533ms

That's about standard for all servers I've tried including ones on PingTest.

This only happens during the day, though. After about 10 o'clock I'm back to normal with about 60ms to servers but then from the moment I get up I'm catapulted back to dialup, practically.

I have rang my ISP who have effectively told me there's nothing I can do. There are too many people on my line during the day and I'm just gonna have to suck it up and get on with it. I'm paraphrasing, of course but you get the jist.

Was Haseem just trying to get me off the line and there is actually something I can do, or am I doomed to wait to past 10 to be able to play online?

Only thing you can do is tell your ISP to shove it and get a new one

Well, seeing as my dad is a BT engineer and we get it for free because of that, there isn't a great chance of that happening.

There is nothing you can do without changing ISP. Even if your dad pulls strings. Effectively, you need to suck it up otherwise. They are right, too many people on your exchange, and that won't change until the copper phone lines are replaced. Though it is Xmas and that's a big reason why it sucks so much. Wait till jan 4th and it will go back to the way it was.

Sorry, but that is literally it.

Do you neighbours have the same problems, if not, then maybe BT are wrong, and also if not, maybe you could piggyback(with their permission) their network during the day for gaming, as long as you can convince them that gaming wont lag their pcs while they are at work.

Too many people on the line sounds like a bullshit excuse to me. Your pings shouldn't be that high if your not downloading or anything.

What is your download speed like besides these high pings?

Um... my ping seems to have gone back to normal? Looks like whining did some good. Somehow!
