14th of Sandstone- We now have 95 dwarves. I’m reaching the upper limit of my dwarf wrangling capabilities to keep them occupied. The carry rocks up stairs level of hell scenario hasn’t bought me nearly enough time. Autumn is quiet. Too quiet. I’m using the time to gather as much wood as possible and have ordered the removal of pretty much every tree I can see.

5th of Moonstone- We have 657 beers available... i'm not sure whos not been doing their fair share of drinking but its certainly not me. I tell the brewers to go stop making and start drinking!

Our first militia squad are now at 10 strong and fully clothed in metal armour. We have a second in training who are pretty much armed with pans though but their armour is on order.

I've ordered a secondary tunnel to try and dig further down away from the caves to try and find vast riches that dont come with possible troll/giant invasion attatched. I'm also planning on having a second entrance built though whether that will happen before winters over remains to be seen.

16th of Obsidian- A VILE FORCE OF DARKNESS IS UPON US! A goblin army has charged toward the fortress from the west. 10 or so hammergoblins and lead by what appears to be a speargoblin. Luckily no one was outside other than about 100 kittens. The drawbridge is raised and the militia reacts instantly to defend the courtyard and man the towers.

I've no doubt that the milita can take them but honestly i think better to err on the side of caution and wait unitl we need to go outside again. The Goblins rather than siege the fortress simply spend countless hours killing cats. I think they are trying some sort of psycological warfare tactic.

Year end results.

Good points-

  • We have 22 military personnel who are finely trained and well tasked who are mostly happy (one or two drop into unhappiness during tours then pick back up in downtime, keep an eye out though)
  • We have walls 360 around the entrance, a defensive tower around the gate with a catapult being built on it. Theres an alert to call the archers to the tower and an alert to call the squads to the courtyard which is active atmo.
  • We have 800+ drink. I think that may be almost half the requirement that Nanor will need to keep him company in the long lonely fortress nights. Well… maybe I should brew some more.
  • We aren’t dead.

General points-

  • I walled in the caves. Someone else wants to dice with that death trap then god bless.
  • The unicorns are still about though had no luck hunting them.
  • I was meaning to re-locate the meeting hall and making it larger but never did.
  • I was in the process of trying to get a larger underground farm area built but it hasn’t rained once since I started so no joy there. Never did build that second entrance…
  • I pretty much cut down all the trees from us to the brook. When spring hits they’ll re-grow I’m sure.
Bad points-

  • There’s an army of goblins outside!
  • We have smelted all available limonite and haematite. I set all the veins I could see to be dug out. Hopefully some more will be found in the secondary tunnel as well.
  • Our crossbow dwarves are out of bolts due to shooting at raccoons and wolves. Which was nice of them right before the goblin army shows up. You can probably make some out of bone.
  • We have a lot of dwarves doing very little, the second fetch and carry jobs end idlers shoot up to 15+.
  • We have a hospital set up but it has no supplies as yet and that means there’s still that injured soldier in there with the fractured spine. We have a qualified surgeon but I don’t have the experience to get the hospital running smoothly.

Thanks for letting me cut in line and good luck to the future rulers of havonia! I take a deep lungful of air and swim out of the brook to fortress pipeline and ride a unicorn out into the sunset!

Will upload the save when I can talked to someone to find out how.

Ummm, it's St. Paddy's week this week. Being Irish I doubt I'll be sober very much, if at all. I'm sure I'll have some time to give it a whack. I'll do my best but... I'm gonna be hella drunk. :p

Hoy, :)

I think I've figured out a way of playing DF at home, so my availability isn't horrible. :) I should be faster than the previous time, in any case...

Cheers,
J.
