Ok so Im just about to buy
x1 Vga to AV cable
x1 RCA splitter

I want to play my xbox360 on my pc monitor I have 2 questions,

1) Is it HD or do I need a diffrent cable for that?
2)I use a headset for gaming which is the Turtle Beach XLC's which connect to a tv through the earphones/headphones part of a TV, do i need another cable to work that?

thanks

Why are none of these options HDMI?

EDIT: I withdraw my comment, I have just been informed the 360 didn't ship with HDMI until the 2007 Pro/Elite... useless kit.

In all the ways. The HDMI cable would have sorted your video + audio needs all in one.
You meant neither, right? Unless it's an HDMI monitor and the HDMI cable has some kind of magical headphone jack?

The Official xbox HDMI leads come with an audio splitter cable - you plug the HDMI into the monitor, you then use the audio splitter to split the audio elsewhere - the splitter has RCA jacks and an optical out.

Now to the original question - from memory, the xbox VGA cable has some sort of separate splitter for the audio. You may/may not need an adapter of some description for the audio such that you can connect yout headset to it, but you should be able to use the headset with it with no issues.

It comes with a stereo pair of phono jacks. You'll probably need an adapter to combine these into a single 3.5mm headphones jack for most 2.0/2.1 speaker systems.

I am ashamed to admit I now realise I know nothing about "consoles". I was just under the assumption HDMI is the way to get a HD signal out of a device these days :(
I AM FOREVER SORRY FOR THIS

So theoretically if you had an xbox with HDMI output you could put it through HDMI onto the TV then use the TVs headphone socket for the headset?

Yes, assuming you have all these HDMI things in the first place. I don't have any HDMI devices...

That should also work, however there would likely be a bit of audio lag in that situation

This is exactly how mine is normally setup, except I use a monitor not a tv. Never had an issue with it. However if you don't have hdmi then blokes earlier comment works.

Really? I wouldn't have thought you'd notice any particular lag on HDMI pumping out to the headphones jack...

THAT would be fine - what I am suggesting here is that where you have Console plugged into the TV, and the headphones are plugged into the TV instead of the console directly, there may be a small amount of audio lag introduced. There may not be, but i think it's a valid consideration.

While true, it would be the same lag introduced between the video signal that arrives at the TV and the actual picture forming on the screen... :D

In other words, don't worry about it...

You say that, but Rock Band has an option to change the sync of the audio to the video to counter delays, which is probably where TB was thinking. Just remembered that.

I think vibs had an issue with his TV relaying optical audio at a lag but I wouldn't expect a lag on analog audio.
