The forums are open for courteous debate, not a tough one to understand surely.
Honestly I have to say that everytime someone not in the WoW guild posts in here they have no idea what is going on and just end up butting their heads in and making the situation worse.
Thats the only way your going to be able to control the debate yes.

The World of Warcraft forums are open to all with an interest in World of Warcraft. They are not exclusive to members of TheHaven WoW guild.

I have to say that you are getting far too worked up imho, Bradstreet.
There is being Politically Correct. And then there is taking things a bit too far.
Try to not let things get to you. Sure. Might take a little time. But you will have much more fun that way*smiles*

The rules governing these WoW forums are that of the entire THN forums, as Haven said. These forums are not soley for members of the The Haven guild on Scarshield Legion, they are, as Haven said, for any members of the THN community, in relation to World of Warcraft.

Now, whilst the rules governing the use of these forums are those of the THN forums in general, that doesn't mean that the behaviour of members of the guild in this section of the forum won't have any effect on what happens in-game.

The original post of this thread was not against the forum rules by any stretch of the imagination, nor will I ever claim it is. But that didn't stop it having negative impact on the guild in-game, and that is what is being penalised.

Post here all you want, within the THN rules. But don't expect it to never have consequences in-game.

Now, this whole business is getting increasingly and necessarily unpleasant; debate all you want about the subject matter of the two incidents, and who is right or wrong, but it isn't going to change the judgement, it isn't going to change the point I made about using whispers to avoid such unpleasantness, and at the end of the day, all it is going to cause is further upset and negativity; I'd recommend leaving it that and letting this thread sink past the first page for good.

Thanks to all of you who have made being in the Haven guild such fun. It's been really great to see so much of the raid content, to have met some tremendous people (who I hope will keep in touch in-game), and to have got so much better (and better geared!) as a player. G'bye.

hello all

well i guess if we are all being open about this the language and the tone of people on team speak and the raid really upset me. And hence why i have stopped signing up for the 25 man raids.

We are a guild, and we all know that people in the guild come from all over the county and a few come from europe too, language and conduct have gone out the window recentley , and we need to tighten up the cords and get a more into a decent non swearing motion.

The next option is all setting up pay pal account and having an online swear jar, though i dought T-bone would have enough money.

Dont take this a knock on you raid leading skills just on your language.

Lots of love hairbelle

What is The Haven Net's (Not just the WoW guild) take on swearing?

"You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this discussion board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law."

Awwww, I get depressed when I read terms and conditions :(

Lemme explain.

the humor of TS is mostly male dominated humor IMO. Its harsh and abrasive alot of the time simply beacuse its mostly men only. This makes for a certain type of atmosphere that it seems quite a few people have a problem with

Yea i find a word unpleasant and have told people not to use it on loads of occasions... have they stoppped? no.

Therfore im not supprised people get so upset they post here if they feel they are not being heard.

I Have had enough of this... from both paties equaly... we all need to think before we speak/type. Myself included

Oh and P.S ignore it..... by the millionth time that wears a bit thin!

Obviously I know Umbrator far better than i know Bradstreet. I suspect, like most things, the better course of action is the middle way.

Looking back at it now, i find it very easy to understand how Bradstreet would have been offended by what was said. the question of if she was right to be offended or not is an irrelivance. She was, and thats the end of it.

That said, from what I know about Umbrator, and having met the muffin muncher, i doubt very much that what he said was intended to be offensive.
The "ignore it" position is wearing very, very thin, and i would never suggest someone ignores the fact that they are offended.

The fact that this has resulted in the longest forum post for ages tells me how deeply people feel about this. And although i take people's comments on non-officers and Brad getting involved, this is an issue that goes beyond our community and everyone deserves to state their opinion.

I deal with quite a few cases like this day to day. People do get offended by things that were not meant offensively, but thats not always a bad thing.
I can see how this would appear as a mans guild, and we are certainly unusual in the percentage of female players we have.

All i would really say is that, in my opinion, and my experience, both Umbrator and Bradstreet are in the wrong, and both Umbrator and Brad are in the right too.

Tingham Out. - My very large 2 cents.

After reading the debate, all I can say is that respect is never too much, and this applies to both toning down some of our nasty jokes if they are indeed going too far, and to how things are to be discussed, especially if such discussions will lead to mayhem and affect guild environment negatively.

Umbrator put one side of the question quite nicely on his "how to discuss..." topic, and I believe the rest is down to self-moderation from us (because I'm a nasty, politically incorrect joker myself), albeit not to the point of becoming a stale, humourless, forced-to-be-politically-correct community. There's a middle ground for everything.

Now y'all shut up and gief cookies!
