A thought..

I guess then it's a good job the recruitment is such a stringent process, and not just anyone is let in for community spots.

Hey, :)

I guess then it's a good job the recruitment is such a stringent process, and not just anyone is let in for community spots.

I don't know if you're being sincere or sarcastic, but whichever it is, I don't follow... :S

We've never had a recruitment drive for community spots. Everyone that's come in into the community has sought us out on their own. It still takes time to integrate such people, but less so than recruited raiders. Plus, they generally come in at a rate with which we can easily cope, and even if that rate steps up a bit, all that does is make the community change and grow as they integrate. It really doesn't dillute it at all, as a bunch of recruited raiders would.

Cheers,
J.

Some raiders tend to only log on for raids, which is even worse for community.
Like me, though I have an excuse called Lynn and Alex.

I think recruiting to get to 25man will not be beneficial to the guild, I think 25man raiding is just not possible anymore on this server. You'll have to recruit harder then you'd want to and accept people you wouldn't want to to be able to make the numbers. In the end that's one of the things that broke EoL apart.

Making 2x10 is actually harder then making 1x25, it requires more organization and there will always be unhappy people cause they where put in the "bad group".

I think we can do 25man raiding though if you do it together with (alts from) another guild which doesn't raid on Tuesday.
Like Aftermath.
With Youn and me being in both The Haven and AM we already have ties there.

This will create a venue for 25man raiding without the downsides of heavy recruiting. We know AM offers quality raiders, even their alts. And seeing as The Haven has a simple "roll if you want it" mentality there's nothing extra needed to get the loot distributed.

Hey, :)

I agree with pretty much everything you posted, with a couple of exceptions:

Some raiders tend to only log on for raids, which is even worse for community.

You and Randakar may think of yourselves as "just raiders" or you may not. I don't. Even though you don't log in all that much, when you do, it just feels like you're part of the group. Maybe it's because you sought us out, or maybe it's because of your attitude towards us, or maybe it's something else entirely, but the fact is, I consider you both fully integrated and part of the community, and I'm sure a lot of other people do as well. :)

seeing as The Haven has a simple "roll if you want it" mentality there's nothing extra needed to get the loot distributed.

This is actually incorrect. Although, in practice, it does tend to work out like that most times, we do have a loot policy in place. In order of priority:

1) Main characters rolling on main spec upgrade loot
2) Alt characters rolling on main spec upgrade loot
3) Main characters rolling on main spec side-grade loot
4) All other side-grade or off-spec loot
5) BoE loot goes for the guild bank if there's a good chance that a guild regular raider that's not in the raid needs it for an upgrade
6) Otherwise, at the discretion of the raid leader, BoE loot rolled for a player's other characters
7) Whatever else, like completionist loot, RP loot or whatever
8) If all else fails, DE the item and stick the resulting mats in the gbank

This is, unfortunately, just complicated enough that it would take some agreement between guilds to make sure it works.

Alternatively, we could just go with a "roll if you want it" mentality for any joint ventures, but that should presumably be clearly announced to the raid at the start.

But in any case, these are fairly minor details as regards your post, which was pretty much spot on. :)

Cheers,
J.

So, joint Haven/AM raids in the future on Tuesday?

I, too, would like to take a poke at 25 man but I think rather than attempting a regular weekly event, try it as a once-a-month special. Zooggy is trying to get Tuesdays as LX night plus I'm not often around on a Tuesday is I'm often gaming my old buddy Veygrix (AM / Ex-Haven) with some other friends.

I'd suggest maybe a Friday or weekend event to see if we can organise at least one run. The last time I tried tried to organise a 25 man run with another guild (Storm Lords Reloaded) there was a lot of initial interest but when it came to the night, nowhere near enough people.

I know that Aftermath have abandoned 25 man raids due to lack of regular signups but suspect there's a number of them would still like to give it a go.

I'd love to go raiding with Veygrix and Garviel again as they were in the old raid-crew that got me into raiding in the first place :)

Well, the obvious reason for doing it on a Tuesday is cause ppl won't have to be worried about getting saved out of their guild. But if AM truly abandoned 25man raids now, who cares if you get saved to 25!
I don't think weekends are better though, lots of ppl tend to not be around on weekends.
And if it turns out we still don't have enough people with Haven and AM we can try and add PF to the mix. I know some people there as well, some old EoL'ers and been in their alt runs a couple of times.

And yes, more raids with Garviel! And Tamlock. I have a thing for crazy warlocks ;-)

25 and 10s share the same lock out, have done for the entire expansion..

I have no interest in pursuing this in any shape or form for the foreseeable future.

The other thing to mention - it takes a LOT of organisation and people management to, er, manage it all. More than most people realise. And I'm not sure The Haven has the right number of officers willing to get in and help manage that many people...

Amen to that.
Having been on the frontlines of EOL, with Liesje micromanaging a lot of that, I'll just say that this was a full-time occupation back in the day. Not something you can pull of on a casual raid schedule.

Why, thanks :)

That's pretty much common sense though. I'm sure AM folks use something similar in their alt raids.

As to the whole "raiding 25 mans with AM" thing .. I'll just stay out of that discussion.

( Ok. Fine. I lie. I won't.)

I like large raids simply because they tend to have a lot more interesting discussion going on. 10 man raids don't really *feel* like true raiding at all.

In any case, the simple fact is that AM and TH have a wholly different approach to raiding. I would not be surprised if that leads to personality clashes, as well as questions about who would raid lead such a thing. I'm sure some AM people will see some TH people as not wholly up to snuff for their raids and it may very well be vice-versa (but perhaps not on the same grounds.)

Secondly, as alluded to earlier, 25 mans are a lot more difficult to put together. Especially when it comes to healers. A decent raid takes 5-6 healers, depending on the quality of the healing team. Getting that tends to be a challenge..
