Is it just me, or is there already antialiasing in the top right pane in that one compared to the third pane where they say that theyve added antialiasing? :p

Good thread though :)

No it's just you. The background is quite blatantly smoother in panel 3 :p

Nanor, tb, you guys... don't actually know what anti aliasing is, do you?

AA is the process of removing the jaggedy edges from straight lines so that it appears less plixellated on a display.

Panel 3 is FAR LESS pixellated than panel 2.

And you can't think of anything else that might be causing it to look less pixelized? Say, resolution, for instance? The anti-aliasing in panel two is actually what's making it look so blurry...

It's when the pixels are "greyed out" along the edges to give the illusion of smoothness; effective at lower resolutions where you don't have many pixels to play with but not as important at ridiculously high ones.

When you zoom into stuff that's anti-aliased you can see how it's done and it looks quite messy :p

Anti-aliased text etc. is a pain in the ass in paint programs when you want to fill the surrounding area.. because it's when the greyed edges really stand out (whereas a non-alised item would fill correctly along it's edge)

In Cryo Sleep
PAnel 2 = antialiased + low resolution

if you scaled the image down so that the PIXELS were the same size as 3, it would probably appear just as smooth... just by changing the resolution - therefore, there is no diff in antialiasing between panel 2 and 3.

l2AA nanor ;-)
