I'm particularly interested in group/raid combat and guild support structures i.e. how easy it is to manage and interact with other people in a guild/raid way in-game.

It's tricky to compare with WoW, I'd say - not only because of my very limited experience with WoW, but also because there are no mods yet. The basic interface isn't superb, but it isn't bad either. I haven't looked through it properly yet, either. And I haven't been in any larger groups - still on "newb island".

So far, what I can definitely say is that for anyone not already having a particular interest in this game, it's probably best to wait a few updates. There are quite a few fixes outstanding, even though I'd still say it's better off than WoW was when it launched.

For In-depth commentary on guild/raid topics, you'll have to wait until I've leveled up a bit :P What I can say right now, however, is that the classes seem to work well with one another. And that it's fun ^^. I haven't experienced any lag, and re "everything is an instance" - well, that's _postitive_ imho - it's never too crowded. And that nearly all feats are the same, well I've only seen the priests' feats, and they vary quite a lot. And I'm fairly sure the ranger doesn't have my spells. There is a "general" feat category, and they definitely are alike between the classes, but that's sort of the point I guess.

I'll post up more when I've played some more :)

After playing a bit more, leveling two chars up to 20+, I'm certain I like the game :P

The graphics are impressive, with inspiring environments. Though I'm playing on a FFA PvP server I haven't been ganked/griefed/whatever it's called once. This might be because it's an RP PvP server, but still, it says something about the community of players. The quests are really well thought out, and even though it's "kill x of these and bring y of this back", just as usual, they've managed to make it interesting just the same.

Haven't tried the guild thing yet, either. Interacting with other people in-game has it's limits. Combat requires you to be active constantly, so you can't type anything while fighting. The gui isn't very informative, but I haven't explored it fully yet. Targeting group members is easy, but then again, most heals are AoE/cone variants so it's really not necessary. Autotargeting/autofacing makes it easier to play PvE, but harder to play PvP.

I'll keep posting.

Nanor: I'm level 25 now, in Cimmeria. What about you?

DocBot: I'm level 28 in Cimmeria. I'm gonna get up to 30 and then we can talk to Scyra and start the level 30 quests together?

I have to agree with DocBot. The combat is non-pareil and requires your full attention. It adds a new dimension to PvP because one slip up and the odds change drastically. The GUI is horrible and looks very archaic. It's not all a total loss, however, as you can still mod the UI so this problem should be sorted hopefully soon. There are a few here.

If you're getting bored and want something new to take a stab at I'd damn well recommend it. However, if your PC can just about run WoW I'd suggest getting an upgrade first.

Have you tried the base assault thing yet Nanor? I saw an interview of one of the devs and he demo'd it, it looks interesting, what do you think of it?

I haven't tried much of the PvP. All I've done is a bit of real world PvP where I kill people who annoy me during questing. Oh, and a capture the flag of sorts PvP. Base Assaulting is for much bigger fish to fry. :)

Ahey, :)

Either that or it's a relatively new game and most gankers and griefers like to max out their characters before they start pounding on the lowbies. :)

From my WoW experience, I'd wait at least a solid month before assessing the ganking situation.

Cheers,
J.

OR! the rating makes it harder for the 'immature-lings' to gank and greif ("Buy me this game mummy!", "No, your not old enough!" "But Muuumm!!!!") , in comparison to WW. It's also possible that the game is so good they have no time to gank and greif. Or pie, that's always good... Pie...

Another little update:

There are definitely balance issues. I know that, playing both the class percieved as the most OP (Priest of MItra) and the class that really feels like it's half done (Dark Templar). Having said that, I really enjoy playing both of them.

Moving on, guild cities and res: Teh guild cities are nothing more than stuff to brag about, and gold sinks, atm. I'm sure that will change in one of the twice-weekly patches. Although they look really nice ^^. To build them you need a guild member who's chosen "Architect" as a tradeskill (right now you can have two, but iirc it's meant to be one, so they might change that), and the gold and res for it. Res gathering is straight-forward but can take a loong time if you're not lucky. Also the progression through the res tiers is a bit strange and random atm (once you've got 20 of your tier, you go back and get a quest to find a "rare" res from those same nodes. It's fairly rare, indeed your best chance of getting it is from one of the random encounters you can get when you're harvesting. But if you get it before getting the actual quest it doesn't count, apparently. Very annoying).

That's all for now :)

You level really quick. After that there's tradeskills and pvp (and, I guess, instances, but it's thin so far). Although the pvp really needs some love...
