well, it's growing on me, I'll tell you that :)

glad we agree on the military issues ;)

klicks - military slang for "kilometers". Really only came up because english-speaking folks who didn't actually use it wanted something easier (shorter) to say, i guess ;)

my guess is: people are used to this kind of slang in military movies, so to lend a "military" air to some scenes they use it here as well.

on a side note; I just saw the "earth" scene and might just be rethinking my position on the greek mythology thing :)

I assume its because Im looking at this thread linearly

Yep, pretty much. :) In threaded mode this conversation makes much more sense. I should do a quick podcast or article on "posting with consideration to threaded and linear users".

Yeah. Language in films (and games) is a tricky business. Does one try to reflect the nature of a futuristic environment by inventing new words that reflect that environment's culture and technological background, or does one use modern day words that might well refer to an unrelated culture and accept that these words are what is needed to get the message across? I'm one from the latter camp, with a small dash of "colour" words to flavour my environment differently.

It's one of the things I really liked in Firefly -- their use of Chinese to imply culture/language merge occuring in the future, but they stuck with modern verbage (for the most part) to keep the audience focused on what was happening not what they meant.

Can ya spoiler me which scene that was, exactly? I'm up to episode 12 and it's all become, uh, confused... it's really pretty hard to discuss some of this stuff without giving direct spoilers to future episodes. :)

Meh, down with anything but threaded to be honest, users using linear and then replying to the wrong post, drives me crazy (yes like Doccy I'm a neatness Nazi )

Finally, havn't watched battlestar G, but can anyone explain the female singing fighter pilot featured in the advert?
lol :p

Does the female look like this? If so, that's Katee Sackhoff and she plays Lt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace. Why she's singing? No idea. Not seen the advert.
