Look I really don't think that putting all of the custom maps back on the server is needed.

It would be nice to be able to get a few of the THN designed maps on there in the near future.

Am I right in thinking that you put a 'how to' in the BF2 forums for custom maps? If so then hopefully I can persuade KC nearer the time to install some of the THN maps.

Why don't you have a backup of these scripts you spent so long on doing Haven?

Backups are fucked as stated on the development mailing list. We do not have the capacity to backup gaming files or home directory files as stated.

Why wasn't I informed about them aswell?

Also there was a big file called README in the bf2 root and one in the maps directory stating what I had done.

Those who are running and maintaining the BF2 clan should learn how to use the server themselves.

I agree and I've spoken to both yourself and PhatBambi about this on several occasions.

Unfortunately I went on and did a load of work making it much better - I believe with hindsight the one I posted didn't work but I never re-posted the updated version. Also there were four scripts but I'm damned if I can remember what they all did now. At least the instructions remain though - I'd forgotten that I'd posted that

Well that's a bit harsh KC. What about our conversation we had the other night?

The running of the clan is enough for the current admins to be dealing with let alone running the server as well. That was why I asked you to fulfil the BF2 server admin role in the first place.

I don't really have time to organise events, matches, clan members, opposing clans, keep the peace, moderate the forums, learn how to use Linux and then run the server all at the same time. Most of the other admins are running other areas of the BF2 clan or community as well. As for delegating I have done a far whack of that but it seems it's being thrown back in my face here.

A large proportion of the BF2 community contributes to the server and the community. We can only do so much. I wish we had more to contribute but we can only stretch so far.

I do not feel that the running of the server is something that I should have to deal with nor the BF2 clan admins should have to deal with. I also feel that it is not our duty to employ people to run the server.

We are events organisers and promoters for BF2 within THN and nothing more.

If you would like us to take on more responsibility this is not the way I would expect to be asked.

I'm not going to try and get involved in this argument, but I havequite abit of linux knowledge and will be unable to play bf2 once i go back to uni...

So if there's anything I can do to help serverwise, let me know

That's a different engine though. I know all there is to know about Unreal/UT/UT2k3/4 and linux servers, and with it all mods and games based on the unreal engine, but i'm lost on battlefield.
