Blood Bowl LE Update

So steam just kicked in 2 mins ago and downloaded a 35MB patch for BB:LE... but I cannot find any patch notes anywhere.

In other news, when are we starting league 3? :)

EDIT: just found what I believe to be the patch note:

from: http://www.cyanide-studio.com/forumBB/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=29891 version 2.1.0.2:

- Fixed a possible crash when placing players on the pitch.

Looks like the TraxHax may have been fixed :)

Woo, patch!

Sadly I have to do that manually what with me not having the Steam version.

I am also interested in knowing when the next league is happening, though I bet I will be knocked out quickly. :p

Ahhh. I know nothing about leagues as I am possibly the least sports-aware person ever!

Guess that means people will get to curb-stomp me even longer!

I figured we'd let the blood bowl burnout and rage subside for a while before a discussion about how we'll run the next league, and how this one went.

Wtb league next time if private leagues are properly working by then. League > Cup.

Maybe this is a good time to ask how people felt about this league?

Some starting points:

Did you enjoy the longer schedule? - Did you feel it was too long, or did you prefer to play everyone else?

Lets have some feedback.

From an admin perspective, this league was closer to what I feel we intended for THN than the first league, where we were very much feeling our way around what to do. It generally went fairly well, aside from Kasatka's computer implosion and gombol's pouting, the vast majority of games were played, rather than admined.

The longer schedule was good, in that everyone got to play everyone else, ensuring a good range of opponents, but i felt 'league fatigue' started to kick in towards the final third, especially among those players already out, or nearly out of competition for playoff places. The benefit of the playoffs meant that teams which traditionally start off very fast (I.E. elves etc) didn't have much of an advantage over slower developing teams (e.g. ronin's humans), with the top four finishers all having a shot at the title. - It actually meant that the final was contested by players finishing 3rd and fourth after the league stage, after they usurped the top two in inglorious playoff games (sniff).

I'd prefer an ongoing league over a cup, as I feel towards the latter half of the cup style we've used the players lower down the tables start to lose heart. I understand it's not all about winning, but when you're being repeatedly beaten down game after game it does take the fun out of it somewhat.

I was under the impression we were going to be able to create private leagues which worked in a similar way to the current Auld World League; that is, with people playing those close to themselves in TV, and an overall ranking system within the league, as opposed to a cup, which finishes once everyone has played everyone else just the once.

I like that we had a weekly schedule, as it kept people's interest, and we could each keep up with the happenings of that week much easier. However, I did feel at times it was a tad slow.
What I'd ideally like is for the friendlies to count as much as the league games. So playing another cup for "official" games would be fine, but I'd like a THN only league played alongside, so we could experiment with multiple teams and get some good friendlies going.
Basically, as I said before, a THN only Auld World league would be perfect - I'm just not sure on the possibilities of that with the current tools available.

I think that Huung has the right idea, a league sounds better than a cup if we can get one working.

I thought that the last patch allowed that sort of functionality - a private "open" style leage that works in the same way the Auld world league works

Unfortunately, just like most of Cyanide's offering, there's no actual documentation to describe how it works so we'd be creating a league blind and hoping it did something sensible.

Having had no experience with creating/admining a league/cup I would have to lean to what Ronin said with regards to being blind and hoping it was sensible.

Judging by how wonderful BB has been with things previously I would probably prefer keeping to what is known for any official league, even if that means creating another league alongside to experiment with

Yeah i don't personally want to see "winners" - an ongoing league with more regular matches would be nice. 1 a week was too slow for me.

Well, I just started up the game and had a look at the multiplayer options and one of them is "Open League" that allows for ranked and unranked matches as well as "matchmaking" and lets you allow or disallow challenges it seems.

Sadly my utter lack of sports knowledge means I don't know what all that really means but it sounds like what people are wanting?

It may be best to fire something up on a potentially short term basis to see how it works, then put together something more serious built on that understanding.

1 a week was too slow for me.

Understood. That was as much based around the frequency of play the league admins could manage. Personally, can't even do one a week at the moment, but in maybe three or four weeks I should have more time.

Ultimately, frequency is chosen to suit the majority of players. If there's call for a "rapid" league, I don't see an issue in that, especially if it doesn't call for any match management (match-ups, chasing people to play games, etc).

I don't suppose it explains what the difference between a ranked and unranked match is?

Alas not, but I'd guess that ranked ones actually score points on the league while unranked ones are just friendlies?

The patch notes that bloke linked to say:
"- Private Leagues with "Open League" settings:
* It is now possible to create private leagues with settings similar to the current Open Leagues (Auld Wold, Naggaroth Open...)."

So I'm guessing that with a little fiddling you can get the Open League settings to do exactly what we're wanting!

Ranked matches will be the ones which require you to play someone close to your own TV, and will then rank you in the league.
Unranked matches will be the standard friendlies, where TV isn't a limiting factor, and you won't move in the league standings after the match.

Pretty much exactly like the AW (unranked or ranked)/Nagg (ranked only) leagues work now.
