So, Myself and Xylak just played an awesome match, with both of us having our fair share of both good and bad luck.
I started with 370k in inducements due to the difference in TV, and would have bought the star player Rameses III (I think that's his name?) but he cost 380k, so instead I opted for the Halfling master chef and a single bloodweiser babes.
I decided to kick to start, and after stealing one reroll and being witness to a riot that caused the clock to run down by a turn, Xylak received the ball and was able to pick it up with one of his ghouls. After a bit of a fight in the middle, he was able to open up a gap for his ballcarrier to squeeze through on my left flank - despite my best efforts at attempting to get him to fail dodges, he passed them and scored. 1-0 to Xylak.
That was Xylak's 6th turn, so at the restart it was my 6th turn. A bad kick off from Xylak gave me a touchback, allowing me to give the ball straight to the Thro-Ra I had positioned on my left flank. Instantly I was able to smash the two guys he had on that wing to the ground and force the Thro-Ra through into his territory. Though he was unguarded, I was able to get a couple of players up to block the easy access up this flank, and this had the required effect. Long story short, last action of the half I take the ball over the line, making it 1-1 at half time.
Xylak kicked off, and managing to exploit the fact that I only had one player not on the front line, was got the ball to rest as far as it would go in my own TD area, on the bottom-rightmost square. Some terrible defending from myself, including a turnover right before I was going to attempt the pickup left a gaping hole that he was able to get a ghoul with +1MA and a Wight through. They quickly saw off the single skeleton I had guarding my Thro-Ra and on the next turn pushed him off the pitch and picked up the ball in my own endzone for an instant touchdown.
After the restart, where the fans decided to Get the Ref, we both ended up with a bribe each. Turns out we didn't need either though....
On the kickoff, I again received touchback and gave the ball to the Thro-Ra I had positioned on my left. I then proceeded to totally flatten his front line over the next two turns, knocking out three players, including both his wights, and opened up a massive hole on his left side, which I was able to breeze through. I hadn't counted on his Ghouls being able to dodge in and get to my ballcarrier, however, and with 3 turns to go he smashed the ball out of my Thro-Ra's hand. At this point, I had 2 players occupying a skeleton on the right, two Tomb Guardians occupying his two Mummies in the centre of the field, and the rest of my team on the left, trying to deal with his three ghouls. The rest of his players were off the pitch.
They would not stay down, and a failed pickup by me left me with very little time to score. Then the breakthrough happened. Attempting to dodge away from one of my Blitz-Ras, one of his Ghouls failed the dodge. Then failed the reroll. Then fell over and tried eating himself or something, as he ended up dead (woo!). This, coupled with the fact that I had managed to fell one of the other ghouls by this time, meant I had a hole to break through finally... Problem was, picking up the ball... I'd had to get one of my Thro-Ras in position to get to the endzone and the other had had to push a skeleton out of the way, leaving me with a skeleton to pick up the ball. He manages to do so, I manage to hand-off the ball to the Thro-Ra within range, and after a successful GFI it's 2-2, at the end of my 16th Turn.
...The story of the match doesn't end there, though...
Xylak still had one turn left, so I lined up my 4 Tomb Guardians on the centre, thinking they could take some punishment, and then placed the rest of my team out of harm's way.
First block comes in against my leftmost Tomb Guardian, not only does he knock him down, he breaks through the armour... and kills him. Dead. Failed regeneration, so now I'm one TG down. Then a second block flies in, and causes ANOTHER injury to a Tomb Guardian, such that he'll miss the next game.
...Revenge appears to be a dish best served with a punch to the face, in this case
Final score: 2-2.
One death each, I also have another Tomb Guardian missing my next match. FORTUNATELY, however, my next match is a bye so I'll get my TG back and should be able to also buy a replacement with the monies that I WAS going to use to buy a reroll........
