I absolutely resent the fact that you seem to believe that us who play games on something completely dedicated to playing games upon are by some stretch, less skilled and need reduced difficulty gameplay in order to thrive. I've always been a crossover gamer in that I play games of all genres on both games consoles and on my PC. My honest opinion is this: There are games that are better played on the PC, and there are others that play better on a games console. How is it though that when you play a game on a console, just because there's less buttons to press this makes you less skilled? Please explain this train of thought, as it seems pretty unsubstantiated to be honest mate. There are several games that I have played on both my 360 and on a computer, and for me, the difference in difficulty is absolutely negligible. I can understand the irritance associated with shitty console ports that do nothing but disappoint, but is it not true that there are games, comme Crysis, that are great games for the PC, yet never appear on consoles. Quit yer bitching, PC gamers get games that console gamers don't, and vice versa. Also, give Treyarch a chance. The people disappointed by CoD5 seem to forget that CoD4 was a truly AWESOME game, and because CoD5 was amazingly similar to said awesome game made it less awesome?? Errr, yes, lack of innovation reduces it's appeal, but it was still a pretty decent game. MW2 isn't even out yet, so CoD7 can't really be a copy yet, so let's wait and see, shall we? :)

While I do agree that console gamers are no-less gamer material than their PC counterparts I feel I must point out that, in fact, they do need reduced difficulty vis a vis auto aiming in FPS games.

CoD5 rode on the success of CoD4. CoD5 is effectively a total conversion mod for CoD4. Imagine there was a car with a great engine and great body work. Take that engine and put it in a car with average body work and that is the relation of CoD4 to CoD5. If CoD4 was shit CoD5 would be shitter.

MW2 has almost finished development. CoD7 could quite easily have taken the bare bones of that and messed with it so it can indeed be a copy. We don't even know if they've started developing CoD7 yet as HotStuff has said they've only bought the songs.

While you feel obliged to point this out, I feel obliged to point out that the auto-aim facility can be completely turned off in CoD4 and in fact in most games where it makes an appearance, and that turning it off does infact enhance the gaming experience. (Coming from someone who finished the game on Veteran completely without Auto-Aim)

Yes I'm saying CoD players who play on the xbox compared to those who play on the PC are massively less skilled. I've played a bit of CoD both 4 and 5 on the xbox. The playing standard of good xbox players is much lower than that of good PC gamers. I'm able to play CoD on the xbox and with very little practice was able to dominate mates from work who are normally topping every server by quite some way. This is not a dig at the console gamers. The nature of games like CoD on the PC, the match and tournie mods and the higher amount of availability to play high class opponents means the average skill of the players is higher. It's not a dig at console gamers, the limitations of a gamepad mean that certain things that i do as reflex on a kb and mouse aren't possible or aren't worth doing due to the time it takes to pull the moves. My point before about crappy console ports is that with CoD5 and I can't give a good reason why it works on the xbox. The game isn't as smooth and fluid as I find CoD4 and thus I find it is better suited to the gamepad. I found once you got that across onto a PC the experience is just a bit meh.

Also don't throw crysis at us as an example of PC gamers getting somet that consoles didn't. crysis was a horrible game. A beautiful game and a great technical exercise but there wasn't much past the demo to make me actually want to keep playing. But then again I'm useless, if not in the right mood no amount of storyline will keep me playing.

I also agree that there are games that show the console in a great light. Halo for example is a top notch console game and sucks on the PC.

Well if D said it then you know it's just in there to stir things up ;)

A console gamer will never have the reflex reaction times of a PC gamer in an FPS, simply because of the different control systems. It takes a different kind of skill to play a console to a PC, and console games tend to be made to feel more "arcadey" than realistic to suit this difference.
It's also why you don't get any (successful) games which pit console gamers directly against their PC counterparts - the PC gamers would just wipe the floor with them.

That part there raises an interesting question though - I wonder if something like Windows Live could be made to achieve this kind of thing, so that we could then actually see what the apparent difference is?

Though I bet the console gamers would all turn into whiney little bitches because they get owned all the time :D:D:D

There was at least one game that bridged that gap in the past - Need for Speed: Underground, if memory serves. I never played that game online, though, so I couldn't testify as to which group of gamers were better racers. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the older EA sports titles had cross-platform online play, like the Tiger Woods games.

Shadowrun for the PC/Xbox also did cross-platform multi, though it was a shit game. There's also a few upcoming games that promise PC/PS3/Xbox cross-platform, but often that changes before release.

Also, don't mistake control differences for skill differences.
