*has an hour to kill and grabs the download*

Veshi and Blacker look to be giving it a go as well.

Don't do what I did and switch to Europe for server, you get error code 3003 because there are no European beta servers. Stick to the Americas. Bashiok on twitter is giving updates for code meanings.

I was greatly disappointed by this game. Especially because of the lack of character customisation.

I am also a bit disappointed. In the beta there were nothing that made me go
"oh shit! i hope something bad doesn't happen now".

This game is CUTE and nothing at all like its predecessor.
It is just a normal hack n slash and it look more like God of War than Diablo.
There is nothing creepy or scary about any environment that were in the beta
and even the witch doctor's minions look like something i would bring on a first date!

Meh played for an hour - honestly can't see why they don't just re-release Diablo2. The update offering nothing exciting for me.

Not one I'll be buying.

I'm feeling very much the same way. Sure, all very pretty, but I'm fairly sure I've played this before somewhere...

Isn't that what D2 players want though, graphically updated D2? If a lot of the comments are, meh, feels like Diablo 2, haven't they done their job? I mean, this is the company that basically just rereleased StarCraft with a competitive play aid system to uproarious acclaim.

Except that they didn't re-release SC1. They actually did some work to make changes in the meantime. SC2 has the feel of the original, but makes great efforts to open the game up to non-pro non-Korean n00bs who might fancy an online game from time to time. The tutorial and MP practice mechanisms they've included are downright impressive. And the game does feature a few new bits as well, though it's quite recognisable regardless.

D3, however, just feels like a pretty D2. There's a few widgets here and there but I felt like it was all a bit hollow. I guess I didn't hugely enjoy D2 either, though.

For me, as someone who played over 30 characters (thats completed the game over 150 times) to level 80, of which 3 99, and several nineties, and has established that i played diablo 2 a lot.

The game i played this week end as many have said is big graphical improvement, and as an sequel should be, not a clone, however:

It felt to me like someone had taken Diablo 2, ripped out all the good stuff, and not put it back in, replaced all the graphics, and said done. Gone are the unique characters, gone is the stats system which meant that 2 characters of the same class in the same gear were not the same, gone is the FFA boss fights. In which they now they expect us to defeat the boss with either 1,2,3 or 4 players in a one chance succeed or fail style. As in most MMO's i have played.

Without mod support, i cant see this game suviving as well as any other blizzard game to date.

If they wanted to make money from people who liked Diablo 2, but are not fans, this beta was a baaad idea.

This is not the game I wanted. Movies get remakes all the time, who says a game cant receive a remake.

Boulders gate gets a remake, why not diablo 1 and 2. Diablo is invincible after each defeat, D3 wont be the end of the saga.

I'm glad to see that the general consensus meets my initial expectations of this game.
I decided to not touch it as soon as Blizzard announced it as always online and having market place malarky, but if it's also NOT as good as Diablo 2 then i think we'll see a large chunk of the gaming community passing it up.
