90mins this evening spent on win7.

Installed graphics, sound and mouse drivers.

Ran the performance rating and got this:

Processor 6.4
Ram 5.9
Graphics 6.8
Gaming graphics 6.8
Primary H Disk 5.9

Is this good/OK/lacking ?

Traxata, the windows XP mode is definetley something for the future, least of all, it will be supported.

Not bad. What system specs are they? guessing relatively old?

mine is Intel core 2 Duo 3Ghz, 4Gb RAM, nvidia 9800GT 1Gb

What's your spec and performance rating wol?

atm mines a core 2 quad (6600), 8 gb ram, and now a HD5870 1gb. I get 6.8 on processor+ram and 7.8 on graphics IIRC. Get the same as you for HDD as im not running SSDs or anything like that.

I used to have a c2d / 4gb / 8800gt 512, but cant remember what the performance rating was for it! Think it was fairly similar to what youre getting.

Spent another 90 mins this evening, this was to install Acronis, my preferred back up software. Had to pay for the win7 version. After downloading and installing, it quickly said "there is an update available", so another 30 mins to download and install - why didn't they just give me the updated version in the first instance?

Next thing I got a balloon telling me an updated version of nvidia drivers are available. In win xp it was prudent to uninstall old drivers first before installing new, is it the same with win7?

Everytime I switch on win7 there always seems to be an update for something.

Next session will be to

1) install latest nvidia driver
2) run acronis and create rescue boot disc
3) run acronis and Do backup of complete system

Getting there !

You will find that with respect to hardware drivers and the like, Win7 is usually much more stable. Particularly with Graphics drivers, which are frequently updated, you don't even need to restart after upgrading them anymore...

Got the answer from nvidia.com

Q: Do I need to uninstall my older driver first?
A: No. It used to be the case that an uninstall was first required. Today the recommended method is to overinstall the newer driver on top of your older driver. This will allow you to maintain any current NVIDIA Control Panel settings or profiles.
