Ok the fact the planes get stuck at a certain level is stupid, but I think if we got as realistic as above that would be pretty boring.

This, a bazillion times - games should be fun, and realism is fun to a point, but the reason I play games is because real life sucks.

One life and no respawns? wtf is that about? :D

OK, I'm not saying that these "realistic" games should necessarily go into infinite detail. I think a certain amount of license is given, and accepted, with regards to entering/exiting a vehicle but jumping into a closed-cockpit plane whilst it is in the air is stretching things a bit far, don't you think?
Fine, have easy access while it's on the ground but not while it's flying - come off it, it's just silly at best and ridiculously unrealistic at worst.

I'm not knocking the game as a whole (not having played it, tbh, although I have others in the BF series) but it's sold on it's realism and this is in no way anywhere near realistic. If you jump out of a plane, you should not be able get back into it (or another one) - unless it's a crazy "skydive" game which involves dropping from one plane to another.
Like this guy does (skip to 1:30 for start of jump):

I'm not a fan of BF3 for reason i won't go into here, but i have to agree that for a game sold on being so realistic a depiction of modern warfare it is totally immersion breaking to have stuff like this going on. Sure you can choose not to do it yourself, but there's nothing stopping other people pulling stunts like that on you and then you get into the realm of servers enforcing rule-sets that aren't part of the core game... ultimately the game isn't being played as intended then.
I guess it's always impossible in any multiplayer game to get everyone on the same page as to what they want from a game and what they want to put into it.
