[EVE] [EVE] Early direction

So, there's a bunch of us playing EVE and, thus far, it's quite fun. Actually, it's most fun when I'm helping Traxata not die to swarms of tough beasties but that's the way this game seems to go. :)

It'd be good to get a feel for who is playing and vaguely what we're doing.

As far as I know, playing are:

  • Ronin Storm, as RoninStorm
  • Traxata, as Traxata
  • BiG D, as Dohkta D
  • thatbloke, as thatbloke
  • pHatBambi, as Kaneda Suul
  • Piacular, as Inara <something... forgotten what, I'll look it up>
  • Nanor, as Nannums
  • Zeejin, as <unknown>

I have half a memory that both Killer-Mk1 and Fluidicspace play EVE too. Still playing guys?

I'm currently working on getting a Destroyer and then Salvaging. That's my next 2M ISK accounted for... basically aiming down a military sort of path, though: railguns, missiles, that sort of thing.

My question to you guys is what sort of direction you're looking at going?

The Corporation bambi's creating is going to be a salvaging corp, so that we should be looking at salvaging all wrecks, I can and have got the ability to salvage and shall be doing so from now on,

I've gone down the route of scientist, as I've got high intellect and seem to be fairly fast at training those skills.

for the short-term I am training my combat skills purely so I'm not so helpless.
so far everytime I've gone out I've nearly died. I've been podded(not pod-killed) 4 times now, one was some arsehole who took two shots at me at a stargate with his battlecruiser, against my pathetic Ibis. The others were attempting to do missions just a little out of my grasp.

I'm saving up for the salvaging skill by doing missions and such. I'm headed down the military path focusing on, but not limited to, long range attacks.

As far as I know, my character is almost exactly like Trax's. I have no idea what my goddamn plan is.

I might join you once you've found your feet, but believe me no one would benifit this early one, if you're a salvage corp i suggest hoarding the salvage and sending scouts out to the major trade hubs, jita, rens, ourslert(it sounds like that), and doing price checks.

Try to stay away from level 5 skills above rank 2
Never train any learning skills to level 5 EVER.(you could make an exeption on learning itself.)

If you get a warning that says "you are about to enter low security space", NEVER tick the do not show box, if you already have you can untick it in the options" in low sec(low sec is still empire) full pvp is enabled.

Due to dodgy game mechanics its possible to salvage wrecks that do not belong to you, wrecks that other ppl do not want you to salvage, from their missions. If you have the skill,s and the time to learn scanning, you can probe out ppl on missions and steal their wrecks by salvaging them without taking the contents, you can also salvage wrecks that are just abandoned by ppl doing missions for LP, there was a time when i used to do a level 3 mission in 30 mins and book mark all the rooms, and then when i got back to station and handed in, sell the book mark to salvagers.

I recomend you look at rig prices and consider manufacturing some of the rigs.

Especially since in some situations its worth while to buy the mats from market and make rigs for sale, as phat told me you're in the wholesale bussiness atm, well with a few skills(production efficiency) and blueprints that doesnt have to be.

Also consider doing a high sec mining op once a week, all you need is 1 hauler, and several mining ships, if you hauler is on the ball, your mined minerals spend very litle time in a jet can, i know it can be lucrative, as i one was hauling for 3 hours in a 12km³ (alt 0179), total of maybe 300k, now, those guy had serious mining ships, but if you get a few cruisers you could do it too.

Also, Ctrl click(target), alt click(look at), Dragging mouse with various combinations of left and right mouse pressed.

Also at ronins request:

Learning is a skill tree that contains skills that advance your skill learning by increasing attributes and lowering learning time. Training these skills can both be very useful and yet absolutely useless. But hopefully you will manage to balance them out.

Note that if you max out all skills it will take years for you to gain any time.

OK, so I've decided that in my efforts to help the corp I wants me a nice big fat heavy interdictor.

My thoughts behind this is it's essentially a destroyer with attitude so i can still help doing lots of salvage. Also, when we want to go and kill someone or engage on missions i can either drag em out of warp, or just stop them from entering warp to escape.

Additionally, having spoken to bob, [Bobikus maximus (?sp)] he is going to go down the badass fighter type router (end destination unknown) and working as a team, you smash em i'll grab em.

Thoughts?

{Additionally, time to flycatcher = 73 days,
time to onyx = 130d}

That all suits my overall plan of aiming at command ships / electronic warfare / fleet pivot. I figure it's not viable initially but once we're all pushing into Cruisers fairly comfortably I can probably switch over to the Blackbird Cruiser (for example) and start providing EW support to fleet actions.

If you're looking at serious warfare, I suggest checking out Targeting -- even just one more target lock is really helpful, I find, especially where the chaff are closing en masse.

Provided I can raise the cash I'm only a 4hr skill upgrade to getting the cruisers. My thinking is for me as Vibs said I wanna beat the crap out of stuff. I'm going to go for a stick with my diddy merlin until I can supersize it properly, it may take a while but it worked a treat in X2 so I can't see any reason it won't in this as well. I need to get my levels up so I can get some better missions as I'm currently well too plebby to get much.

I've also half inched a load of ammo and launchers from the corp HQ, however I've already replaced one launcher and will try and contribute the best I can in time.

Any suggestions people can give in the best way to become a big bad ass will be much appreciated, otherwise Trax is going to get sick of me asking him stuff all the time. I'm liking the look f the cruisers, is my best tactic to get the money to get that. OR should I be looking to find an intermediary ship as a it's got a bigger cargo bay to get crap attitude.

I really enjoyed wandering about getting agent missions and killing stuff last night so I'll stick with that for the time being unless someone yells and tells me I'm better off doing somet else.

Also bob is totally not playing a MMOPURGER and no one tell Nanor he'll be unbearable. :p

if you cant replace the items with other items, you can just donate monies to the corp ( aim for the Caldari Division Wallet )

No problem. If you're seriously replacing stuff in the first three days of play you're probably not focusing enough on your own advancement. I'm dropping stuff in there that's just loot from missions as I'm making my real money on salvaging. Loot sales? 50-100K. Salvaging a kill mission? 200K-1.5M. So I just keep the loot and put it in the Corp hanger.

If in doubt, I'd appreciate it if people could help build our standing with Kaalakiota corp who are the people who rent us our Caldari office. I've got an agent in New Caldari (Kara Takin, Administration division, New Caldari 2 - Kaalakiota Corporation Factory) who you can run a 50:50 mix of kill and transport missions with and who should be available to you immediately. Otherwise, just as you are, I think. Whatever seems most fun. :)

I'm not really feeling much love for this game, it's all just clicking buttons and complicated 3d interfaces! Migraine! Arrrgh! Does it open up and get loads better after the noob island?

The 3D interface comes second nature after a few hours. It is pretty similar gameplay after noob island, though.
