[EVE] EVE Online trial

Okay, I admit that I don't quite know what it is that draws me but I've got a hankering to have a play around with a game with a more persistent world to it. I've played EVE Online before, a couple of years back I think, and I believe a lot has changed since then. I fancy giving it another look.

Anyone else fancy picking up the 3 week trial of EVE Online via Steam (it's only 2 weeks via the EVE web site)?

Note: Strictly, I'm not interested in playing long hours or getting particularly serious with the game (just yet?). Just looking to see if anyone else has been wondering about trying EVE out and would like to do it with a bit of company.

I think it's a game that very much benefits from having people to play with and a common cause to work to. While one can solo various parts of EVE, the world is so fast and space is so empty that it's hard not to feel that you're by yourself... and that really turns me off a multiplayer game.

I was holding off creating mine until I'd seen if anyone else was interested, figuring that they start the 3 week trial from point of registration.

Do you get another free trial if u download it again via steam as i already had an account...
or would it have been already deleted from lack of use??

Well, I've just signed a new free trial and I used a free trial when I played some years back so I figure that as long as your account details are different you can probably have a new free trial. Leastways, they've just let me in. :)

For those trying this out, I figure it'd be good to start in the same rough general area. IIRC, that's based on race.

So, which race should we start with?

The link above will help your choice.

The choices are:

  • Amarr
  • Caldari
  • Gallente
  • Minmatar

Ship shape might be a defining factor, in which case you'll want a scan of the ship database.

Personally, I like Caldari frigates (sharp edges, pointy) and dislike the Amarr ones (rounded, fat-looking).

I concur, I think if I plan on playing it properly, is going for a nice Caldari Scorpian Battleship, that things looks so good!

Actually, I think I'll go Achura Caldari and aim to get myself a missile frigate, to start with.

Damn you for tempting me once again.. You might see me about when I'm done with these assignments. Eve has been popping up every so often and saying 'plaaaay meeeee', but so far I've managed to resist.

Just a note, guys. (And anyone who is familiar with the game can correct me if I'm way off the mark) but it looks to me like in order to "level" your skills, you need to manually choose one to learn in the character sheet. The skill is upgraded in real time (including when you're not logged in.) So it's prolly best to have something selected before you log out at night.

Indeedy. And take it even further and set your alarm for 2am, when the skill is going to be ready so that you can start the next one! Hey thatbloke? That's how it's done isn't it? ;)
