Well, I thought I'd take a peek at it and after some initial faffing got a character done. Chose Berserker cos it looked easy melee.

Joined the guild before I had even done a quest :)

Easy to level 10 in under 3hrs including lots of "what happens when i do this" type stuff.
KB controls aren't as nimble to use in combat as WoW but could get around it with practice.
Could be a distraction from WoW for a short while but with WoW being lots better and Cataclysm around the corner, it's not going to steal many people for being free (ish) - beware the nag screens for "give us money now please kthnxbai" or, rather, "Upgrade now and get stuff".

Oh yeah, my name is....Thuugaym.

/you lose!

Give it a bit longer, you might change some of what you've said :)

The interface is actually *more* customizable than wow, so you can generally get it feeling exactly how you want if you know where to look.

Bear in mind on re-mapping keys EQ2 doesn't automatically un-bind the previous key. So it's a bit frustrating if like me you don't use the default movement keys etc. However it's also a good thing if you want a single key to do more than one thing. :)

There's macros & emotes as well. Oh and if you hit F10 a couple of times you can change absolutely any window.

Right click a hotbar and "add hotbar" to have as many as you want. Then F10x2 window mode and drag and drop them anwyhere, also resize them to any shape (I have one as a square over my chara).

You can also change regular opacity and mouseover opacity of any window and window frame. You can change chat fonts, create new chat tabs and move them anywhere.

If you want to change chara appearance, it's actually under your character tab (not options!) at the bottom there's an appearance tab. You can have hood up or down on cloaks/robes (I love that). hide helments, hide cloak but show weapon on back, or hide weapon on back.

Like I said, you can do anything.. wow wasn't quite there last time I played but with acouple of mods, almost. :)

Other things to look out for.. right click and examine certain loot to begin quests e.g. Lore and Legend for specific mob types such as elementals. Also examine any of the shiny "?" items you pick up to add to your collection. Basically examine everything until you are used to what to look for on loot, otherwise you risk missing cool stuff.

My comment on controls wasn't really about configuration, more on actual response. In WoW I can move, strafe and turn pretty much at the same time but with EQ it doesn't seem to like multiple key presses. Possible just me needing to get used to it.

I'm not saying it's completely horrible but EQ doesn't seem as "polished" as WoW. I'll stick with it for a while, though, just for a change ;)

I'm movin' and strafing and rmb-mouse turning just fine here. Make sure you change the keys from turn to strafe, if they aren't already.
