Due to the setup of this entire story, it seems more to me that this is just another urban legend tbh
I have seen the exact same type of story before in many other contexts.
One which was about a chat room instead of WoW and that a man had been harassing aa woman who then sent her husband and two of his friends to beat the man, with him ending up in the hospital with the exact same injuries
It was a nice touch, adding a name in this WoW version of it, though

*chuckle* Well, I can confess that I laughed as well, a lot.

And I heard a similar story, only that this time it was a kid that was being ganked, and he got some severe issues from it. Tried to take his life and everything.

So he ended up at a hospital with a shrink to try to sort things out.

And after some talking, it turned out that the shrink had been the one ganking him.
