Guild Wars Event #2 Discussion

Around seven o'clock BST would probably be best. You don't need to turn up right on the dot, though, in fact it's probably better if we all try and appear before then so we can make plans around dinnertime and all that sort of nonsense. Plus, I'll probably be trying to get on early so I can get a few of these Ascalon quests out of the way. We should do a bit of that beforehand, and help each other out if we have problems, but keep 7 oclock in mind for the beginning of the story missions.

OK, I have a couple of points to make/questions to ask about this event.

First, thanks again for turning up and making it worthwhile. It's good to have everybody returning for once, usually there're one or two people who can't make it and then we end up all splintered and people get left behind.

We did get most of the Ascalon missions completed, but we didn't get through Nolani Academy! People sort of wandered off after Surmia, maybe four missions on the trot gets a bit samey? Anyway, not to worry, we can just take care of that one next Sunday (or during the course of the week if an opportunity arises).

Related to that, I feel like I have to ask - Tingham, Dee, are you enjoying yourselves? There're two reasons I ask that, first is that you might not be happy with your current class. Warrior is usually pretty interesting, Dee, so I shouldn't think there'd be a problem with you (at least I'd hope not) :p but Tingham, I understand that monk is fairly hands-off in this early stage of the game and you might find yourself watching action from the side rather than making a considerable impact yourself.
The importance of a monk really mounts up once we get through the Shiverpeaks and into Kryta, which should prove a bit more interesting for you, but if you're not having a good time of it then I'd be happy to help you try something else whilst we're in the early stages. Of course, if you're having a great time of it then excellent!

The second reason I ask if you're enjoying yourselves is that I've become aware Iron and myself, in our familiarity of the game, tend to push on pretty rapidly whilst the going is pretty easy. That's not fair on you two since you'll either be left behind (which did happen a couple of times last night, Tingham spoke to a collector and then all of a sudden he was half a klick off the pace) or have nothing to do. I noticed that, (and this isn't a slight on yourself, Fist) Fist would nuke the hell out of a group of enemies and wipe them off the face of the planet before even our tank could get to the frontlines, when, technically, D should be the first one to engage the enemy.
For that I apologise; it's a good feeling when you're out in front of the group and pushing everything forward, but it's a team game! There's no I in team! *cough* So! For our next meeting, I'm gonna try and throttle back a bit and put Dee and Tingham in the driving seat a bit more rather than us two shepherding you through the thing. More specifically, get a bit of structure going with D running in to agro the groups, Tingham protecting him for his life's worth and then the two spellcasters, Fist and myself, offering supporting fire. Any thoughts on that? If you're happy with the frantic pace we're setting then by all means say so, but I get the impression we're taking too much out of your hands and just making it a run through!

Finally, are you all happy with setting the same time again for next week (7.00pm BST on Sunday)? Also, is there any time during the week we can get together for a short while and get the Nolani Academy mission out of the way?

Thanks,
Tetsuo

Im good with monk, mate. I play healer whatever I do.

Im enjoying myself fine, but it would be nice if we could keep up the pace :).

I didnt actually know it was possible for things to be tanked in guild wars but ....meh.

i've been having maybe just a little too much fun as i know as soon as we hit the Shiverpeaks my DPS will shrivel up like skinny dipper in the Arctic winter...
but yes i really need to slow down and i'm all good for any time over the next week at this point.

Thought I replied to this earlier, but I guess not! I'm ok with the pace; I've already played the early content to death and I'm fine with IF showing off while he still can ;) I'll leave the pacing up to Ting. Also, does aggro still work that way? I thought the NPCs went after the healer as soon as they, well, healed something?

Next Sunday is ok, but there's likely an EvE directors meeting at some point, so Fist and I will need to attend that. My schedule remains the same otherwise -- after 23:00 BST weeknights, anytime weekends.

You're right, they tend to wander off and attack the spellcasters (especially monks) at any given opportunity. There are ways for the warrior to hold aggro, though, like being inundated with enchantments and going in nice and early to deliver a few swift chops. It's better than the enemy rushing up to greet our backline first, so I maintain you should be the first one into the grinder :p

Regarding the next event, I'll get to work arranging that right away. I'll make it for the same time as normal, but if you could let us know early when the EVE meeting is gonna be then we could rearrange it for Saturday night or something.
