Spawned from a discussion on IRC earlier, I'm interested to know how people hold their mouse - and if they've actually actively thought about why.

So, of these three grips (or a mixture of) - how do you hold your mouse?

The "Palm" Grip

The "Claw" Grip

The "Fingertip" Grip

Personally, I use a fingertip grip. Never really thought about it before, but with my hands being rather large, if I hold my mouse in a palm grip, my fingertips extend beyond the ends of the mouse buttons.

I like to feel it in my hand. I keep a light but firm grip with the palm which allows for dexterous use of the fingers. This way feels good for me but the grip may vary for people who have a different shape to mine.

We are talking about [strike]penises[/strike] mice here, aren't we?

Up the retards!!!!

Alternatively I do much the same. Palm for casual, fingers for those "I'm in the zone even if I can't hit anything" moments.

Weirdly I can tolerate the word retard as I use it daily mostly in a self depreciating way, but Spastic is walking that fine line for me. Anyway call me a Kettle (or a Black Pot) ... but lets keep this disable friendly from now on plux :)

Palm, if anything of the above - grip, not face, that is. I tend to adjust my grip according to how much precision is needed. And ofcourse whether my mouse hand is also holding a cig or not... :D

I was going to go for "some combination" but then I looked at the pictures again and it's clear that claw is correct for me. It seems to allow for some small quantity of palm-mouse contact, which I always have at the back of the mouse for control, but my clicking is done with poised fingers like a claw...

Seems I'm in the minority.

They tried to convince me earlier on IRC that I was a lone freak for holding it in my fingertips :p

I had expected claw to be least common, as I can imagine it would tire your fingers out rather quickly - but I must admit, I thought there would be more than just one person....

I get two other contact points aside from my fingers. One at the fleshy part of the base of the thumb and another at the base of the ring and little finger. It's actually that last contact point which drives the entire control as I let my thumb off for clicking the thumb button.

See I'm unsure if my grip is just the claw or some hybrid of it and palm....

I think that can be answered from the details Razor provide:

The Claw said:
The claw grip is defined by the fact that six contact points are made on the surface of the mouse.

2 mouse fingers (first and middle). Control left and right with thumb and ring finger. Top contact with base of fingers. Rear contact with base of thumb.
