What's Your Account Worth?

Not too shabby, until you take into account the fact that I've only been buying things on steam for around 8 months now!

EDIT: Some of those games listed weren't bought over steam, which is somewhat of a relief :)

...and it DOES count games that are currently on a free weekend, which is just silly.

Yea. That is somewhat! It won't tomorrow I'm guessing, as it will cache the prices (i think it said something about it), so its taking the cached prices from 24 hours ago, and the games I have currently available. So I'd hope that tomorrow, the price for the free game will update to be 0, and thus not be counted.

If you really want to piss off sites with ads you click the adds a few dozen times, google marks their account as being fraudulent due to click spam and then they get banned and get no monies with no recourse ... not bitter ... no definately not bitter :)

and just how do you expect websites such as that to provide what they do without them at least breaking even somehow?

If not ad revenue, how should they get their cash instead?

Agreed. I don't get bothered by ads, so long as they appear on websites providing an otherwise free service and aren't those annoying full screen ones that jump about all over the place and stop you seeing what you want to see.

By showing me relevant helpful ads that I might be possibly interested in maybe sometime one day, maybe in the future.

If they're going to show me pointless redundant non-relevant ads which annoys me (theres a minimal list of stuff that doesn't annoy me), then I'm going to be more inclined to make them learn that what they're trying isn't working!

And without knowing YOU and you personally, perhaps also your browsing habits, and what you might be interested in, how are they supposed to know what you are interested in and show you relevant ads? If you're blocking the ads anyway, how will you ever know if they are relevant or not?

I don't mind ads as long as they are not intrusive and covering up the website you are trying to view in the first place.

What would you suggest that websites try in order to generate revenue in ways other than advertisements?

Alot of websites do now have some kind of "premium" service that you subscribe to, but in some cases (THN for example) that model is not appropriate.

Hmmmm anyway I think this discussion should be pulled into another thread :p
