[i42] Lan boxes

Hi, i currently have a thermaltake armo(u)r case weighing in at 17kg, the link goes to the closest thing on their site to my 5-6 year old case.

I was wondering what thoughts people have regarding the smaller computer cases for things like lan events. I was considering buying a small tower, or just a mid tower (the small is more expensive than mid).

It's true, without building around a smaller case in mind a modern gaming gpu and a high end CPU will start to choke in a smaller case.

Man up :-D

You only have to move it twice. Once on thursday and once on monday, and its not even that far to carry, so you should be fine. Although that said, I'm sure I last saw silkth with a trolley ;-)

Well, i guess i will stick with it, though as it has no wheels im not sure ill look forward to it.

Do what I did for i40, and stand in the queue whilst trax carries it all for you? :p

You should be fine. It's only like 50m you have to carry it. Tisn't much really, and there should be someone else around somewhere with a trolley or something if needs be.

Want wheels?

I wouldn't worry about the weight. We have lots of us there to help and there are lifts from the ground floor to fair near the box entrance so not too far to wander with it.

Well its actually not the weight i have a problem with, but the size, though i mentioned the wait because you can see in the pics how big it is but you have to dig deeper for the weight.

Actually, I have a suggestion, which is what I did for i40:

Folding Sack Trolley (link to eBay)

The one I got was a little cheaper but also rated for lower load. Certainly helps with heavy cases as long as you make sure that the motherboard is facing the handles, not out into air.

You can go for trolleys or as bloke and I do there are PC carry cases that make carrying cases a little easier and is also easy storage for mice, cables, keyboards and the like.

The case you have there will be far from the biggest case at the LAN so I wouldn't worry. As long as you can fit it in to whatever transport you are getting it's all good :D.

Are the clanboxes locked when they are empty?

no.

We usually shut the blinds / doors when we leave in the morning, and theres generally someone in there 24/7 apart from the hours of the morning.

What things are you worried about being stolen? It's worth getting some form of lock to tie your mouse/keyboard to your tower, and lock your tower also just in case, but apart from that we've not had any problems so far.

That needs updating O.O

I'll get right on that at lunchtime...

It does need updating a tad, but is a good overview for some bits. I was tempted to try and update it but 1) that would involve me clicking login and 2) im meant to be working :p
