Fair enough to microsoft, and to be honest why would you want people to know which gender you prefer to procreate with on a gaming service. Granted, its a hardly punishable offence, compared to the idiocy, racism, discrimination and general arseholery that floats about on Xbox live. But its the difference between a verbal and written contract i guess. You cant sue microsoft claiming someone offended you on the mike, but if its in writing...

Thing is to do with ratings, and how the older generations of america dont really understand them. If you created a field in profiles saying "sexuality" you've automatically bumped up your certificate to 15+ and you can bet that a good percentage of Xbox live players will utilise mummy and daddies credit card for the service. We all know how mums are with "defiling my childs innocence" and if they didnt put an appropriate certificate on live they could get sued (hot coffee anyone)

I do understand richards position though. Living in scunthorpe is a blessing and a curse.

Updates from Microsoft and glaad. Essentially, the Consumerist article was a copy/paste hackjob. Not all that surprising considering its complete lack of research. ("As far as we know, Microsoft is unwilling to reconsider this position." Really? Did you ask Microsoft? Or do you just want some pageviews?)
