Minecraft, can you help?

Minecraft water is "special"

QFT.

If you want water physics to behave correctly, you must also agree to having other physics behave correctly. E.g. skycity, built on a tiny dirt tower, would fall over. Any floating objects would fall down.... all those unsupported minecart tracks would crash to the ground :p

quit bitching. Water is special water. Live with it!

I wasn't bitching Wol, I wanted to know what happens to it, should I be worried that I will flood my caverns and therefore take action to block leaks, and so on.

Also can I build a neverending waterfall? :)

If you craft a bucket out of iron you can then scoop up some water out of the sea or a lake and palace it wherever you want. Once there it will create a never-ending spring but the water can only travel a certain number of blocks from the source so it's not really never-ending it just doesn't go away.

I've just realised that minecraft water is hard to describe.

Get a bucket and give it a try. To remove all the water you just have to remove the source which is as easy as placing a block in its space and all the water that has flowed from it will then go away.

where does all the water go when it's going into a cavern? :p

Eventually the water becomes stored in underground aquifers between grains of minerals. It returns to the surface via springlines where the aquifer outcrops, or via artesian well-like situations. In conditions of geological pressure or heat, the water is expelled towards the surface in the form of vein systems and hot springs.

wasnt claiming that you were bitching in particular. was just preempting any "wah. the water doesnt work as it should. notch should make it right" :)

water travels 8 blocks from the source block *unless* it steps down one, at which point it keeps travelling. Your easiest bet is to join the server, spawn some water buckets, and go crazy

lava is the same, but only travels 3 blocks. unless youre in the nether, when its 8, like water.

"it steps down one"

What does this mean? :)

Also join what server? We have a server? :p

See the attachments. One is water flowing 8 blocks and stopping. The others are water flowing 7 blocks, falling down a step then travelling a further 8 blocks before stopping.

Also the server is at minecraft.thehavennet.org.uk and there's also a Minecraft Group

Great, cheers :)

Last night I put four waterfalls on my castle which pour into a moat. Also started playing with switches/redstone - bit annoying that they can't go vertically up a surface! I want to have a switch at bottom operate a waterfall at the top.. gonna have to create a wire staircase somewhere methinks.

Ah, cool :) Thanks!

Bacon is pretty damned good at redstone ;-)

The minecraft server is currently in flux going between temporary hosting, and going back onto what was prom, but it should be fairly stable for the time being. Hopefully we'll get all services and shizzle up and running happily again soon though :)

Ah, cool :) Thanks!

It's important to note here silkth, that redstone can only go UP using the stacking torches, if you want it to go down then you need to use stairs (usually spiral) and run the redstone down them
