Oh! Hey admins!

So, like, we were all, you know, talking and stuff, and thought it would be totally cool to have a Minecraft server for those of use who have bought it, so we can play together and stuff!

But, like, it so totally needs java to run, and Ronin said to talk to Haven.

HEY HAVEN! Fancy a chat?

FYI, I'd be happy to admin the server, and set it up and what not seeing as it seems pretty simples. But you know, whatever.

Which, you know, might be fun and all, and maybe worth trying on a local environment first maybe? (I'd be happy to LiveCD up some Linux distro after the weekend to test).

I'm happy to do the user creation/management but, as noted in the shoutbox, Java on Linux is outside my experience so I don't want to open a "shaft my server" hole by doing this. Hence Haven...

elD, we've tried this with a friend and in its current state there's quite limited amount of stuff you can do in multiplayer - forges don't work, boxes don't work, possibly other things too. Plus it tends to bluescreen you or kill internets from time to time (unlike in single-player, mind you). Might be worth waiting for some more stable distro.

I'm not against having a thread in which people would show off their creations and/or link to savefiles with their worlds, though :)

This makes me a lot nervous. I'd rather someone road tested it fully before we abuse prom :)

Sure thing, chief. :)

The server will doubtless continue to receive many, many updates so perhaps a beta server would be a better bet.

Yarp! And fair enough. I was not aware of the state of the build. Though I fully intend it try it out on TouchBox this week some time.

Just to necro this up... I've been running a MP server for the last week or so, (Win7) and have had 0 problems with it. I don't know how much has changed since August, but unless I've just been extremely lucky, I'd say things are stable enough now if someone wanted to try and perma-THN server.

A lot, actually, which might be why it's nice and stable now. The MP server got a massive load of work done, such as making smelting and stuff working. Still, good-o!

As Huung as said, and a few other people have said to me, the MP server is a LOT more solid now. It still crashes every now and then, but it doesn't seem to harm anything else. I'd be happy to have a go setting this up for THN if no one else wants to, and of course if it's ok with the powers that be! :)

But yeah, wouldn't mind getting this going! \o/

Ahhhh nice! though i cba to make ANOTHER THN sign at the mo only just finished my castle of fortitude and personalised skywriting last night :P

EDIT: Is it possible to get the address for the server to play from the minecraft program please?

Well... the address is the same as this site...

But that doesn't seem to help. I can load via the web client, but not via my downloaded client. Anyone else having any better luck via the download?

The server version Haven has is the creative one, yes?

The downloadable client doesn't do that it'd seem. *

I can't connect to the server via that URL though.


* When I connect to prom's IP in the client, I get a minecraft has crashed error.

Wol has a "Survival" server going, not sure how long it will stay active though (Does it cost?)

It's running. Ronin is looking into which kind of server we want to run, currently it's in adventure mode, which means nothing spawns at night, only in dungeons and you can't get hurt.
