The modern gadget was a coffee grinder that caused a stampede.

To be honest, there's a difference between "it's difficult because it's obscure or only a small part of the film and it requires some reasoning and some memory flexing to get it", and "it's difficult because it fits over eight hundred and fifty seven movies and it requires fast spewing of random guesses until someone gets it"...
It's no fair if the clue to the film is "it has a director"...

Yeeees, I know.... I was being silly
And woots for me, no idea where I dragged that up from as I've never actually seen the film!
So, erm, next one....
This film follows a group of co-workers who are bored with the repetitiveness of their work which creates conflicts within the small group. However, their tedium is interrupted by a dire emergency caused by damaged equipment.
