RPS published a 7 part blog about a web based 4X strategy game called Neptune's Pride way back in 2010; they republished it more recently. It sounds like they had a crazy time with it and I imagine it's only gotten better since.
It's free (though there is a paid version with a few extras such as private games) and still in beta, but it looks like it could be quite a giggle. You'll need a Google account to register (they do their authentication through Google) but you can set up an alias to play with in game.
It's a slow burn game, the sort of thing you'll check 2 to 4 times a day just to kick your research off in a new direction or dispatch a new invasion fleet to burn your enemies in their beds. Events happen in real time and games can be expected to take a few (5ish?) weeks to complete. The "real" game then happens around this, with feverish bartering over border worlds and Nanor-style treachery.
Purpose of this post is to see who'd be interested in playing a THN game. Probably a shorter one to start with (i.e. tighter galaxy, probably the Reynold's Galaxy for those paying attention at the back).
Looking for six players (or, if it gets that way, I could create a custom one for 10 players) and the first two slots I'll reserve for me and Panda (who's away, so might not see this, but did bring it up in the first place).
Four more?
