The Digital Economy bill did not get through Parliament in time. Sections of it will be re-tabled. Dont really think about it too much. It isnt important.

Actually, it did get passed by the House of Lords (165 votes to 140), and each of the parties in the election (well, the main 3) said that they saw there were concerns with it, and that they would revisit it after the election. But there is no formal "need" to do anything more with it, and, for all intents and purposes, is now the law.

It really is something to worry about, and not just due to the amount of power it gives a few select people.

Yeah, looks like we'll be going with the 50Mb Virgin connection. Not too many complaint about it around, we can get it to come with a phoneline with free weekend calls (ie the main time we're likely to phone home), no download limits (unlike the lower connections), and only about £8 per month each (split five ways, that is).

Might have considered others, but having checked that link above, the choices are incredible restricted, and Virgin seems to be the best out of them all, so hell yeah.

Thanks for the advice, guys, and I'll come back to look at this thread again if the situation changes in terms of availability and what not.

Sorry. My mistake. The vast majority did get through. My understanding is that the amendment that made it more draconian was put down.

With the new government with new priorities, it may well be a while before its enforced.

Lib Dems want to repeal it anyways, so who knows what'll happen now with the coalition.
