Yeah, so if you want a larger monitor for i42 (or smaller if yours is a CRT :P) I'm sure one of us can facilitate you :D

my mate has one that we use for sci-fi film nights, has nice colour saturation, firmware on the menu is a little clunky when switching inputs, but otherwise it's rather nice, not noticed any ghosting at all

Panda with issues...

What about this one?

Its getting close to christmas, and I suspect my dad wants to get it ordered.

Edit: This doesn't have the 1920x1200 resolution, is it worth looking for one with that as a priority?

i know i'm late to this thread :)

Yeah, but it could be that 1000:1 is adequate and 70,000:1 is just pointless. I don't know.

the difference between those is that the second one is a dynamic ratio and the first is 'typical' (grey to grey, white to black).

i think this post from WikiAnswers explains it adequately

also panda, i'd highly recommend to have a look at some ips panel monitors as well before you commit to a purchase. i bought this a couple days ago and i have to say the picture quality and colour accuracy and depth are just stunning, having used tn monitors for the past years.

this page gives you a pretty good overview of the differences between them, and their pros/cons.

Monitor manufacturers seem to be really keen on removing the 16:10 ratio with 1920x1200 resolutions, but if you go higher than this, they seem to be continuing with that line. it's only technically 180 pixels x 1920 pixels (strip) on the bottom (or top) of your monitor. So it purely depends on how much you want that extra screen real-estate.

On Windows your desktop icons (general size, not if you've got them set to HUGE ICONS) are 32 x 32 pixels, so it'll give you room for about 2 more desktop icons down. On my 1920x1080 I've got 13 icons at 32x32, (usually have them at 64x64 - MEDIUM on W7 - and get about 10). That might give you an idea of what sort of extra screen size you get for those less technically inclined.
