Young man, the old school is definitely where it would be.

I find Mahler - Symphony no 5 in C sharp minor: 4th movement, quite moving.

I'm with you Picular - the modern stuff is too "manufactured" - repetitive tunes, repetitive lyrics, artists who can't sing...

At the moment I'm trawling through my Genesis collection - you don't get 18 minute songs like "In the Cage" nowadays, the youth of today get bored after 3 minutes...

Then there's Bond....http://www.bondmusic.net/

Hmm, I like a bit of both.

I love a hit of Fleetwood Mac, but when I'm in the mood: Test Icicles or QOTSA hits the spot.

Right now, you can't live without The Arcade Fire

Well for the most-part some I would say Old-Skool 80's rock is the best music I've ever heard. Bands like Maiden, Metallica Guns N Roses, Motely Crue, Judas Priest, Van Halen and a bit later on stuff like Nirvana. These bands are some of the best music ever. Lyrics which actually mean something, Musicians with actual skill, originality etc. Now adays I find a lack of originality in most thing I hear. Everything from about 1994-2004 was a bit awful. I feel now music is coming back into being good although has reinvented itself as Indie. Bands like Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Hard-Fi, The Strokes, The Rakes, The Vines etc. all have an edge about them (Especiialy the first two).

I still hold out hope....

Can I choose something in the middle or actually in the left field? I like some of the oldies and generally don't like whatever is popular at the moment...

Been listening to Philip Glass' Solo Piano today. Earlier was listening to various tracks from the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack (mixture of stuff, some of which is jazz). Tomorrow I'll probably listen to the Tears of the Sun soundtrack while I'm travelling, or perhaps some Neuroticfish, Les Chansons Neurotique in particular. Recently enjoyed the soundtrack for Kingdom of Heaven (Harry Gregson-Williams) and yet also listened to a mixture of Hendrix tracks in the same day. I guess, overall, I go with "old skool" but I've never really been anywhere close to the mainstream.

Il have to go with T-bone on this, those bands rule.

I find a lot of these newer bands all very samey and I like a few but I think a lot of originality no longer exsists.

Personally, I like a bit of both. You cant beat old rock, but you also cant beat new dance! Ministry of Sound 2005 > all.

See it also depends on what you intend to do while listening to it......

Bit of Black Eye Peas goes down well when driving along. But theres no way id try and dance to it. The bands T bone mentioned like Kaiser chiefs and such are cool to listen to but again not good for a boogie. Whereas ministry of sound would be I wouldn't listen to it at home.

After all that for me personally, Jamiroquai albums > all.

Plus Nizlopi's JCB song I love!

(8) Said I'm Luke, I'm five and my dad's Bruce Lee. Drives me round in his JCB! (8)

Awesome song, and the main reason I hate Shayne Ward.

i don't listen to the new school stuff too much, but the good songs are...ummm..good...

t-bone has good taste though, add to that AC/DC and such (although that wouldn't be good lyrics or original music, as every cd is basically the same) but they still rock. between them and van halen for me

sounds like more old schoolers here than new schoolers :)
