One film everyone must see.

I thought it'd be fun to find out peoples must see film. This is not necessarily your favourite film, just one film that you think everyone must see at least once in their life. Keep it friendly and just post a film you think is classic enough to be on everyones must see list.

For me starting the list I'm going with somet that I believe is the Schindler's list of my generation.

1. Adrien Brody's performance in The Pianist.

Please add any film you see fit to be here. Not been enough random little threads like this lately so go nuts. We've done this in some format before I know but I'd like to do it again to get peoples brains mulling and also to incorporate new faces in without trying to revamp old threads.

Have fun.

The best example I can think of is Brick. A critical success from the US, it's a detective-noir style teenage drug movie that has plenty of action, smart dialogue, brilliant characters and memorable scenes. I cannot recommend it highly enough! :D

Using the criteria "a film you really should see" rather than just picking a film I like, then I'd point you all at Southland Tales.

I watched it because I like Dwayne Johnson. I had no idea what it was about. I'm not sure I could tell you now even if I wanted to. Both myself and Rojaws saw it and I think we'd tell you completely different stories about the same film. It was surreal and awesome, deeply odd and yet extremely poignant.

I really should see it again to see what comes out of it on a second viewing.

I have so many, I don't even know where to begin. Although I guess I could start with Delicatessen, by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (of Amelie and Alien:resurrection fame). It's an absolutely brilliant piece of directing, in a post-apocalyptic,
Sweeney Todd
-ey setting.

(honorary mentions, to start with: Das Boot and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. See them. Sorry.)

Edit: Brilliant thread, by the way. Stickied.

Hmm my plan to unearth awesome films I've not seen before has failed. However it has reminded me of some I've not seen in a long while and have since watched and sat very satisfied. Keep it up getting some awesome films in here.

Adding another to the list
Oldboy

Is truly awesome and only a little but disturbing.

ok a lot disturbing

Seen the diving bell, eh? Very good one imho.

How about Brazil and Awakenings?

Not seen Brazil before, enjoyed awakenings. I'm a big fan of De Niro and Williams. Saw the diving bell with my sister. She was film and production student so tends to have her finger on the pulse of all things foreign filmy. I've watched some really weird stuff on her suggestions.

Ahey, :)

Where Eagles Dare with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood, probably one of my favourite WWII films ever.

It's my father's official favorite film. He's seen it a gazillion times and still watches it whenever it comes on in the oldie movies channel.

So do I, tbh. Awesome flick. :)

Cheers,
J.

For me it's impossible to just pick one movie, I don't think I could help much since all the movies I watch are the ones that gets alot of publicity, wich almost everyone sees. On a funnier note my classmate told us today that he's never seen any of the Bond movies, nor any of the Star Wars movies :O

Going for the cult must see movie line, I'd recommend The Blues Brothers to anyone with a quirky sense of humour and a love of blues (it's also fun to see how many musicisians you can recognise in their cameos, and also see if you can spot spielberg hiding in there somewhere).

Lucky Number S7evin: thriller with a dark and wacky sense of humour, interesting plot twist that should be obvious but still manages to confuse you over the specifics.

My opinion would be Postal, one of the movies that haves the message in it. Osama and G. W. Bush are the best friends in it.:D
